What You Need to Know About the Coronavirus

Yavapai County Arizona

Sedona AZIt’s time to be vigilant, take precautions, and prepare.

Yavapai County Community Health Services Director Leslie Horton said, “Yavapai County has a history of collaborating with the local partner agencies, including all cities and towns, to protect the residents that call Yavapai County home. We are working together and reviewing plans and practiced responses that have been in place for years to make sure everyone is prepared for situations like the one we find ourselves in now with the worldwide spread of Coronavirus (Covid19).”

With the recent case of COVID-19 in California with no contact with anyone from Wuhan China, the CDC has warned the public to be vigilant in healthy precautions and to prepare for potential cases: Visit this link for an easy to follow checklist and share it with others.

The one Arizona patient is now out of isolation and is no longer infected by the virus. People who have come in close contact with the man haven’t shown any signs of the illness known as COVID-19, Maricopa County Public Health reported. Most of them have passed the 14-day monitoring period without displaying any symptoms. Six of the 15 confirmed cases in the U.S. have recovered.

What is the virus and how is it different from the flu?

The only thing it has in common with the flu is that they are both respiratory viruses. COVID-19 has more in common with the common cold. While we mostly hear about rhinoviruses, there are several strains of coronavirus common in the U.S. that cause nothing worse than a cold.

Older adults usually develop worse symptoms than younger and are more likely to develop complications. Like flu, it generally hits hardest among seniors, people with chronic diseases like heart disease, lung disease, and diabetes, and those with weakened immune systems like people undergoing cancer treatment.

There’s no vaccine for coronavirus, but seniors should get vaccinated for diseases like pneumococcus and Hib. Getting those two vaccinations will help in limiting complications. Talk to your health provider if those vaccines are right for you.

Men are more likely to be hit harder with COVID than women. This is partly because women have a better immune system, but also because men often delay medical care until symptoms are severe. Coronavirus or not, if you have a fever above 100, a cough, and/or sore throat, see your doctor.

The best you can do to keep yourself from being infected?  It happens to be the same steps you take to keep yourself from getting colds and flu:

*Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
*Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
*Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
*Stay home when you are sick.
*Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
*Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Here are some preparation tips from Ready.gov:

*Store a two-week supply of water and food.
*Periodically check your regular prescription drugs to ensure a continuous supply in your home.
*Have any nonprescription drugs and other health supplies on hand, including pain relievers, stomach remedies, cough and cold medicines, fluids with electrolytes, and vitamins.
*Get copies and maintain electronic versions of health records from doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and other sources and store them, for personal reference. Get help accessing electronic health records.
*Talk with family members and loved ones about how they would be cared for if they got sick, or what will be needed to care for them in your home.

Health officials emphasize that those who haven’t gotten the vaccine yet should do so, even though we’ve likely reached the midpoint of flu season. The vaccine takes two weeks to provide full protection, but cannot only ward off the illness, it can reduce how bad your flu is if you catch it and reduce the chance you’ll be hospitalized.

Yavapai County Community Health Services is in continuous communications with Arizona Department of Health Services on the COVID-19 monitoring and situation and will keep the public

YCCHS still has plenty of flu vaccine and ask your doctor if you should get any others – just call 928-771-3122 to make an appointment at one of our locations in Prescott, Prescott Valley, Cottonwood and Chino Valley.

Paid attention to news channels and see what people are talking about unfair coverage by certain channels and it was mind blowing in America that certain channels are undermining the efforts to beat this virus. I watched an Anderson Cooper interview with the Vegas mayor and he was rude, wrong, condescending, anti woman, belligerent, arrogant, nasty, petulant, and did I say rude, wrong, nasty and vulgar. He owes that mayor an apology for his behavior and he owes CNN his resignation. What a diva. Shameless behavior by one human to another and how dare he belittle that well spoken woman with a point of view other than his by calling her ignorant. IGNORANT. She was graceful and dignified. Anderson was a kowtowing fascist. I will never watch him willingly again until he prostrates himself on the floor in front of that woman. No man has the right to act that way with a woman. She matters, Anderson. Her opinions matter, Anderson. You’re disgusting, Anderson. #MeToo Anderson for her

  2. FactsTrumpFeelings says:

“How about an obvious strategy: make people immune as quickly as possible. No lockdowns, no social distancing, no self-isolation. Expose everyone to the virus.

    Naturally. Not via a vaccine.

In the old days, parents would hold parties for their children at the house of a child who had developed measles. Let the kiddies get the red spots and be done with it. Make them immune. Of course, this accrued zero profit to pharma. Therefore, the idea had to be discredited, and abandoned as too dangerous. Must have a vaccine.” — author/researcher Jon Rappoport

When is the last time you saw a plannedemic where the healthy were quarantined and the economy shut down for a virus that is about as deadly as the seasonal flu? Actually, the seasonal flu deaths worldwide from January to late March, 2020 are about six times higher? WTF, people! No, we are not “all in this together”.

  3. Testing for coronavirus says:

We have now tested more than five million people. That is more than any other country in the world, and even more than all major countries combined! Thank you healthcare workers!

  4. President not happy with Georgia governor says:

    President said this morning:

If the Wall Street Journal “Editorial” writers had called, as they should have, they would have easily found that I was “NOT happy with the Georgia Governor on Tuesday night.” The Wall Street Journal said the opposite, and got it wrong as you often do. Get it right! The WSJ should be better than copying proChina and proRussia viewpoints like Biden “China is our friend.” If Biden gets to the White House we invite economic and civil and global disaster. Biden is worse every day than Trump on a bad day. Trump and the administration are doing a fantastic job. Give credit when it’s due.

  5. Bob, Chapel area says:

    FACTCHECK.ORG

Former Vice President Joe Biden was wrong when he said that the Trump administration made no effort to get U.S. medical experts into China as the novel coronavirus epidemic spread there early this year.
“[W]hen we were talking … early on in this crisis, we said — I said, among others, that, you know, you should get into China, get our experts there, we have the best in the world, get them in so we know what’s actually happening,” Biden, the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, said at a CNN virtual town hall on March 27. “There was no effort to do that.”

    Except that isn’t the case.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tried to get into China just one week after China reported the outbreak to the World Health Organization on Dec. 31, 2019.

“On January 6, we offered to send a CDC team to China that could assist with these public health efforts,” Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said at a Jan. 28 press conference. “I reiterated that offer when I spoke to China’s Minister of Health on Monday, and it was reiterated again via the World Health Organization today. We are urging China: More cooperation and transparency are the most important steps you can take toward a more effective response.”

More than a week later, Azar said again at a Feb. 7 press conference that “our longstanding offer to send world-class experts to China to assist remains on the table.”

At the time, the New York Times reported, “Normally, teams from the agency’s Epidemic Intelligence Service can be in the air within 24 hours.”

The Biden campaign did not respond to our requests for comment.

A team of public health experts from the WHO was allowed by Chinese authorities to visit Wuhan, where the outbreak began, later in February, according to the South China Morning Post. The team included specialists from the United States as well as Germany, Russia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Nigeria….

Told you SoCal beaches weren’t empty. Wait until you see how many arrests and tickets and fines were given out there and are being giving out as you read this.

  10. Missy Crane says:

..As the lockdowns continue and small business relief isn’t readily available, Americans are desperate to stay afloat.

Many salon owners and workers are offering services out of their homes in order to make ends meet as we head into our second month of quarantine. Police have gotten wind of this in Texas and they’re now cracking down by concocting a sting operation to “bust” women who are offering “salon services” out of their homes.

It’s good to see the police have their priorities straight, right? (end Tweet)

  11. Wayne Dupree says:

While Democrats empty prisons across America, it’s great to know that the police are cracking down on evil barbers and manicurists.

  12. Abe Aurillo says:

New York City resident Arlene Mullin asked an important question last week: “I am wondering who will hold Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo accountable for the deaths of so many older people due to his reckless decision to place COVID19 patients in nursing and rehabilitation homes. I am writing as a daughter who lost her beautiful 88 year old mother who was receiving physical therapy at one such facility. … I really want to know why the governor would put that population at such risk.”

Wait until you find out why. Ask the NY Times.

  13. Carole says:

Biden and Pelosi plan for reopening economy? Don’t. Tell me why we should vote for him. He’s an embarrassment. This woman will never vote for him and that was before the sexual assault denial. I didn’t vote for Hillary and I won’t vote for Biden because we need quality and they aren’t. There’s only party sheep in this town and it makes me sad.

  14. Coconino County COVID-19 Results Update says:

Coconino County added 110 new positives for the past week (up to May 2, 2020) and 374 more negative results. The tribal communities (plural) show an increase in positives to 363. Age ranges for positives remains about the same. Coconino has 137 pending tests as of May 2.

  15. Mojave & Pinal County Sheriffs says:

Pinal and Mohave County sheriffs will not arrest anyone who disobeys Gov. Ducey’s order. In a statement posted to his office Facebook page on Friday, Mojave County Sheriff Doug Schuster said it’s not the job of law enforcement to be the “social distance police.”
“I will not turn otherwise law abiding citizens into criminals who are simply trying to stay afloat and put food on the table,” Schuster said. “It is easier for those in government who continue to receive paychecks, to recommend staying the course.”

Pinal County Sheriff will not issue citations as well.

  16. Don't Blame Federal Government says:

From a bigger breaking news story…

On 2 May, a 15-page intelligence summary produced by the “Five Eyes” intel alliance (U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand), documented China’s cover-up of the outbreak.

That day, a Department of Homeland Security report concluded that one reason China “intentionally concealed the severity” of the Wuhan outbreak was to hoard medical supplies. The analysis indicates China increased imports of medical supplies while decreasing exports, in effect stocking up 2.46 billion pieces of medical items. That hoarding included two billion masks, as well as instructions to its foreign base companies to buy up all the supplies available…

  17. @ Don't Blame Federal Government says:

Of course the “Five Eyes” would never, ever lie. Just not possible!

“The state lies in all the tongues of good and evil, and whatever it says is lies, and whatever it has, it has stolen, everything it is, is false, it bites with stolen teeth, and it bites often, it is false down to its bowels.” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche, Also Sprach Zarathustra [1896]

  18. Art says:

You a fan of the ChiComs? Wuhan isn’t located where animal to human transmissions have occurred in past, but Wuhan is the country’s only coronavirus and virus bio lab testing facility – you know, as in kill the most people with little effort or cost? Let me think … you’re betting it’s a coincidence aren’t you?

Gotta love the communist propaganda piece on CNN about America’s “wet markets” that showed chickens, but no bats and no snakes and no other BS like in China. Bet your grandparents killed their own chickens? Those NYC wet market American monsters! That’s what the PETA woman in a mask kept saying about America. Thank you CNN for another revealing non-journalistic piece of crap.

You will have to estimate the intervention level of 2-4 since Ducey is already opening restaurants on the 11th. This is a great tool for seeing the health costs and money savings of doing business earlier than later.

Yavapai County has done a fraction over 1% of thier total population in testing yet we are prepared to start bringing in all the infected from neighboring cities, counties and states. Their infections and who they infect will not be traceable after all, just the outcomes to the residents.

Are Sedona and other tourist cities prepared to promote people to wear masks to protect residents and front line workers? Do we have them to hand out as a tourist areas, trail and our grocery stores? Keep this in mind during future elections. Senate, House, Governor, Mayor, County Supervisor, down the line.

Think Cuomo? You mean the despised governor of N.Y. who didn’t fund his healthcare agencies when advised by the Obama administration? You mean the man that was despised by Obama? You mean the man who directed all elderly facilities be locked down and no access to other healthcare? You mean the man who literally killed most of the COVID elderly deaths in NYC by his directive? 30. Cal Thomas says:

MIAMI — Hispanics are 60 percent of the population of Miami-Dade County, according to the U.S. Census. In the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton won Hispanic votes here by a margin of about 290,000, which was not enough to win the state for her. An NBC News/Marist poll last month showed President Trump with a 50 percent to 46 percent lead over Joe Biden among Florida Hispanics in the upcoming election. According to a recent Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll, Biden leads Trump by 12 points nationally among likely voters.

Esteban “Steve” Bovo is the Republican candidate for mayor of Miami. His heritage is Cuban-American. I asked Bovo if there is a profile for the Hispanic vote: “The mistake many of these pollsters make in trying to measure the Hispanic vote is they make an assumption that as Hispanics we only care about immigration, or immigration-related topics. What I have found across the board is many Hispanic want law and order; they want security, safety, opportunity to invest, opportunity to raise their family, get good jobs, a good education. That seems to be universal. The same thing applies for whites, blacks, brown.”

Bovo has a take on the rioting and looting, not only last spring in Miami, but in other cities such as Portland, Seattle and Louisville that the media have never investigated: “The initial intelligence we got in the rioting here in Miami was that we had elements who were (not) from here. After a couple of days (we learned of) elements here of Nicaraguan government officials — Sandinistas — we had Chavistas from Venezuela (people fiercely loyal to Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro), we had ‘Castristas’ (agents of the Cuban communist government), we had agents from countries that have a dual purpose. Number one to see harm come to Miami-Dade County, because (we) have been the refuge for all of those folks who fled those sick, perverse systems.”

He sees the rioting and looting as one of several strategies to achieve their second purpose: “In a bigger picture they want to see Miami-Dade County and the country bend the knee. This is your Che Guevara wearing T-shirt guy, who wants to be the anarchist. What is sad is that any opportunity to engage in a real conversation about race, racial injustice and how do we become more aware of these things, has been hijacked by a bunch of latte liberals who are mostly well-to-do white kids going out and acting like fools with police and we lose the opportunity for a good conversation under this banner of justice. They’re not interested in justice. They’re just interested in destruction.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently ordered all restaurants and other businesses open 100 percent. If local jurisdictions object, he said, they could restrict occupancy to no less than 50 percent.

Joe Biden has said he would shut the entire country down again if scientists say so. What does Bovo think of that?

“That’s crazy talk. It doesn’t (address) the reality of what small business owners are going through. What we have done to small businesses is atrocious. If I’m elected, I’m going to meet with all 35 mayors of Miami-Dade County. We are going to have one comprehensive plan for the entire county. What we see is a disconnect, the county doing one thing, some cities wanting to do something else. And the only people to pay a price for that are the residents of our communities. They are not getting a straight message from their government. I would go to a business owner and ask ‘how would you keep your employees safe; how would you make your customers feel safe? I want to put it on their lap.”

Not getting a straight message from government seems to be a problem that extends beyond Miami.

  31. C’mon Man! says:

Biden keeps on coughing in hand and then adjusting mask. First off, what’s the cough? Second why can’t he remember not to do it ?

The news outlet reported, “This isn’t the first time Biden was criticized for his lack of sanitation. During an interview last March as the coronavirus outbreak was underway, the former VP similarly coughed into his hand but was immediately called out by CNN anchor Jake Tapper.”

  32. Ken says:

In most of our opinions Biden’s in trouble – Obama’s WH doc says he’s unfit. That means Obama now off the hook to make any appearances with him and that saves future bad press about Ukrainian money pot. He can withdrawal now on health reasons and won’t lose face for loss to Trump for making the right decision for the country. Democratic win win. Pelosi will be out though. Too many arrogant rich superior moments with ice cream and multiple refrigerators, being “duped” by her hairdresser to come in while calling for a special pandemic appointment, trying to get money for Democrat cities rather than fund $1200 checks per household. She’s done. Harris never was a contender. She’s unpopular among blacks and women voters and Asians don’t even recognize her as having any worth (like a fetus). Democrats can get to work moping up the mess they made instead of continuing to burn down their cities. Now can we say that Biden didn’t have anybody show up at his town halls? Or to Flagstaff? Most were press and organizers. The next time you want to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day, ask them if they give a damn about it being called that or anything else. You won’t look so elitist and worthless to society.

We try to come to terms with the extent of Chinese influence over the Biden family, a leaked database of registered members of the Chinese Communist Party has exposed a mass infiltration of American companies with serious national security implications. Boeing, Qualcomm and Pfizer are just three US companies that have employed dozens of CCP members in their Chinese facilities, the database reveals….wait until we see how high it goes beyond Hunter Biden. Biden says his son is the smartest man he knows. With Joe Biden’s “dementia” it may be the only man he remembers, and it doesn’t say much for his ability to discern character or be a parent, but he will be using all his white privilege to keep the money dishonest boy “channeled” and stay out of jail. This bill is the same crap that the Democrats in Congress are known for bcuz every other country but our own!!

Americans are hurting here and you are sending money to our enemies ???????? The Pakistanis are releasing the man who murdered Danny Pearl today.
