What You Need to Know About the Coronavirus

Yavapai County Arizona

Sedona AZIt’s time to be vigilant, take precautions, and prepare.

Yavapai County Community Health Services Director Leslie Horton said, “Yavapai County has a history of collaborating with the local partner agencies, including all cities and towns, to protect the residents that call Yavapai County home. We are working together and reviewing plans and practiced responses that have been in place for years to make sure everyone is prepared for situations like the one we find ourselves in now with the worldwide spread of Coronavirus (Covid19).”

With the recent case of COVID-19 in California with no contact with anyone from Wuhan China, the CDC has warned the public to be vigilant in healthy precautions and to prepare for potential cases: Visit this link for an easy to follow checklist and share it with others.

The one Arizona patient is now out of isolation and is no longer infected by the virus. People who have come in close contact with the man haven’t shown any signs of the illness known as COVID-19, Maricopa County Public Health reported. Most of them have passed the 14-day monitoring period without displaying any symptoms. Six of the 15 confirmed cases in the U.S. have recovered.

What is the virus and how is it different from the flu?

The only thing it has in common with the flu is that they are both respiratory viruses. COVID-19 has more in common with the common cold. While we mostly hear about rhinoviruses, there are several strains of coronavirus common in the U.S. that cause nothing worse than a cold.

Older adults usually develop worse symptoms than younger and are more likely to develop complications. Like flu, it generally hits hardest among seniors, people with chronic diseases like heart disease, lung disease, and diabetes, and those with weakened immune systems like people undergoing cancer treatment.

There’s no vaccine for coronavirus, but seniors should get vaccinated for diseases like pneumococcus and Hib. Getting those two vaccinations will help in limiting complications. Talk to your health provider if those vaccines are right for you.

Men are more likely to be hit harder with COVID than women. This is partly because women have a better immune system, but also because men often delay medical care until symptoms are severe. Coronavirus or not, if you have a fever above 100, a cough, and/or sore throat, see your doctor.

The best you can do to keep yourself from being infected?  It happens to be the same steps you take to keep yourself from getting colds and flu:

*Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
*Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
*Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
*Stay home when you are sick.
*Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
*Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Here are some preparation tips from Ready.gov:

*Store a two-week supply of water and food.
*Periodically check your regular prescription drugs to ensure a continuous supply in your home.
*Have any nonprescription drugs and other health supplies on hand, including pain relievers, stomach remedies, cough and cold medicines, fluids with electrolytes, and vitamins.
*Get copies and maintain electronic versions of health records from doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and other sources and store them, for personal reference. Get help accessing electronic health records.
*Talk with family members and loved ones about how they would be cared for if they got sick, or what will be needed to care for them in your home.

Health officials emphasize that those who haven’t gotten the vaccine yet should do so, even though we’ve likely reached the midpoint of flu season. The vaccine takes two weeks to provide full protection, but cannot only ward off the illness, it can reduce how bad your flu is if you catch it and reduce the chance you’ll be hospitalized.

Yavapai County Community Health Services is in continuous communications with Arizona Department of Health Services on the COVID-19 monitoring and situation and will keep the public

YCCHS still has plenty of flu vaccine and ask your doctor if you should get any others – just call 928-771-3122 to make an appointment at one of our locations in Prescott, Prescott Valley, Cottonwood and Chino Valley.

  4. Covid deaths falling quickly says:

We hear constantly that 1,300 people are dying a day from Covid. By comparison, about 2,000 people die each day from cancer, and 1,600 from heart disease. Their deaths get no coverage.

Covid was the leading cause of death in the US only in January 2021, even among those eighty-five and older. Since then, it has ranked as the third most frequent cause of death both in the overall population and in the elderly.

Big discussion at club today saying China is demanding anal swab tests for all American diplomats and Americans going to Olympics? Also talk that Pres. Biden is sending diplomats when he said he wasn’t because he fears Russians invading Ukraine while China has high security alert for winter games? In many opinions no athletes ought to be there in China while Russia-Sino agreement says if one attacks then both attack. That means Ukraine and Taiwan. Our athletes and Americans become war tokens while we’re attacked on both fronts like WWII. Why isn’t this on the news or is it another project delegated to Harris?

    From ABC news –

Biden sees other troublesome disapproval numbers surrounding his handling of gun violence (69%), crime (64%), immigration (64%), the situation with Russia and Ukraine (56%) and the country’s economic recovery (56%.)

The country is split on his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, with 50% approving and 49% disapproving. And while support from Democrats trends higher than the population as a whole, Biden’s support within his own ranks is softening.

In August, 91% of Democrats approved of Biden’s handling of the pandemic. Now, that figure has dropped to 82%. The drop in support among Democrats around Biden’s handling of the economic recovery is even clearer, from 89% in August to 73% now. In all approval polls Biden continues to lose support leading to lower numbers each week.

  29. Congressman Paul A. Gosar (D.D.S.) office says:

Washington, DC – Congressman Paul A. Gosar (D.D.S.) issued the following statement after the United States Senate’s passage of companion legislation to House Joint Resolution 46, introduced by Congressman Gosar, that would terminate the COVID-19 national emergency declaration and emergency presidential powers.

“All across America mask mandates are being lifted and normal life is beginning to return. Yet, Mr. Biden recently extended the COVID-19 national emergency for another year despite painting an optimistic portrait of life for Americans after COVID-19 during his recent State of the Union address. The extraordinary powers given to Mr. Biden to deal with the pandemic are no longer justified.

Twice I have moved to terminate the national emergency and both times Nancy Pelosi changed the rules of the entire House to prevent this from happening. I am very pleased that today the Senate passed a companion to my resolution and I look forward to filing a discharge petition early next week to bring my resolution to the House floor for consideration.

Under the current COVID-19 national emergency declaration, more than 120 emergency statutory powers can be invoked by Mr. Biden, including the power to draft Americans without consent, raising Dr. Fauci’s salary, further barricading the United States Capitol, and placing the Public Health Service under military control,” concluded Congressman Gosar.

    Background:

The National Emergencies Act (NEA) gives any sitting President extraordinary powers to deal with crises other than war or natural disasters. On March 13, 2020, President Trump declared a national emergency concerning COVID-19. On February 22, 2022, Joe Biden decided to extend the COVID-19 national emergency beyond March 1, 2023. A provision in the NEA grants Congress termination review of national emergencies, stating that after six months, and every six months after the emergency continues, Congress must meet to consider a resolution of termination.

Last week, Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas introduced a Senate companion to H. J. Res 46, which was subject to an expedited procedure resulting in the resolution’s passage to terminate the national emergency declaration for the Covid-19 pandemic by a vote of 48 to 47.

It’s time for mandates to be removed. It appears that they didn’t work all that well, and people do want to hold on to feeling secure. Masks have limited usefulness and we know it but it’s something for scared people in scary times when they don’t have much else to comfort them. Time to get on with life and stop acting like imminent death is stalking around corners.

  32. Chevellie Kong says:

According to the Harvard Health blog, a 2018 study by the University of Connecticut and Quinnipiac University found that exposure to hot hand dryers exponentially grew bacteria colonies within a matter of seconds.

“Every time a lidless toilet is flushed, it aerosolizes a fine mist of microbes. This fecal cloud may disperse over an area as large as 6 square meters (65 square feet),” Harvard Health stated.

This means that each time someone flushes a toilet, particles of fecal bacteria spread through the air. When the bacteria comes in contact with a hot hand dryer, it multiplies. The best way to dry your hands and prevent bacteria from surviving on them is to use a paper towel.

Call your doctors and tell them to get educated and to get involved with documenting these ailments and others. Do not vaccinate your kids parents unless they are in imminent danger of dying if you don’t. Panic vaccines are not science but emotional responses to diseases. Take time to be educated and stop watching only pro vaccine outlets. Learn to think.

  38. Jo Johnson, Tucson says:

Science and medicine moved so far ahead from the days of Roe V Wade that the initial viability of a baby has changed. It’s time for America to change and recognize that we are now wrong about when life begins (viability) and correct this abhorrent injustice against humans. We do more to protect animals in no kill shelters, what is wrong with voters over 18 yr old? Abortion is not a constitutional right. Let’s all call it a pass go and get out of jail free for those who made the choice to end a viable healthy baby’a life.

Now science and medicine have proven differently than 50 years ago when life began. You all kept meowing about getting vaccines because science said and now we’re learning that there’s a good chance science is offering best information to reconsider some vaccine decisions. It’s time to reconsider abortion on demand as inhumane.

  49. Vaccinated & Boosted Get Covid Too says:

First Lady Jill Biden gets double COVID: Days after the twice vaccinated and double boosted Jill Biden was cleared from a COVID infection she first tested positive for on August 15, the first lady once again tested positive in what is being termed a “rebound” case. She is currently staying isolated in the Bidens’ Delaware home, and is said to not be experiencing any symptoms. At 71 years old, she is in the demographic group most endangered by the virus that originated in Wuhan, China. Joe Biden himself recently recovered from a rebound COVID infection. The great irony here is that it demonstrates that the COVID vaccine does not work like a traditional vaccine in that it does not prevent infection. At best, it lessens the severity of the infection, as appears to have been the case with the Bidens. It further highlights that Biden’s one-size-fits-all vaccine mandate was never really intended to stop COVID as much as it was an opportunity to use COVID as an excuse for a federal government power-grab. If even the vaccinated get the virus, then why demonize those who refuse? The answer is because it was all about politics.
