Dear Yuma Michaels,

You said “We all know that the law was introduced by a person with white supremacist views. I hope, Sir, that you are not of that ilk.” This statement proves you to be, unequivocally, a prototypical “race-baiter” who uses as the cornerstone of every argument the “race-card.” You are obviously a person who calls everyone you don’t agree with a racist. This is an underhanded tactic commonly used by people who can’t otherwise post an argument based on empirical evidence. Moreover, due to your bigoted blindness, you don’t seem to comprehend that “Mexican” does not designate a race, its a nationality, and neither is “Hispanic” a race, its a cultural designation relating to peoples who have a distant heritage from Iberia…a term coined by the Roman emperor Trajan. And finally, the word “Latino” is not a race either, it’s another cultural designation signifying those whose cultural affinity is related to Spanish-speaking cultures south of our border.Undocumented immigrants come from  20 different nations south of our border and they hail from several dozen indigenous native American tribes throughout the Americas. The only thing they have in common is their language. The last time I checked, language is not a racial determinant. So, for your information, which you so sorely lack due to the fact you’re blinded by your own racial biases, this SB1070 issue is not a racial issue as your hysteria would suggest, its purely an economic issue. Furthermore, I never mentioned my own preferences about SB1070 in my letter, just that this City should stand aside. You have no idea what my belief system is!As to the 70% figure I quoted, that came from Bobbi Surber, not me!

Meanwhile, I’m wondering…Did you recruit Mingus high-school tattooed toughs who were bigger than most the men in this town? Did you ask Dan Surber about any of the private communications that I sent to him which he refused to debate, thus necessitating my going public. You mentioned in our letter that you didn’t recruit people from other communities, then you say you did. Then you deny it. What kind of a fool are you? Finally, the polls are rising in both this state and nationally in favor of SB1070. You have lied and I demand that you prove the law is falling in popularity. One other thing…the legislature’s of nine states are now preparing legislation to mimic our SB1070, including states as far east as Pennsylvania!

Economically, ACCCHS (AZ’s health care system) and the state penitentiary are going broke because of having to support non-citizens. I demand that you prove that statement wrong. I suggest that from this day forward you desist from your race-baiting hysterical response to issues you are not capable of researching, much less debating.

P.S. I have both lived in and had a career in Mexico (lived in the Pedregal district of Mexico City with an office on the Reforma). Have you? As an International Banker, I worked with the Mexican Government FINASA (Sugar Industry Div.) Ag Dept to develop subsidies for the “Macheteros (the absolute poorest in Mexico).” Have you done anything like this? One last thing, my best friend of 40 years is  Hispanic (a term he dislikes) and is a naturalized U.S. citizen.

  1. History Lew of Payson says:

What 1854 purchase of land from Mexico brought southern Arizona into the U.S.? The Gadsden Purchase.

Seems Yuma and others that the Mexicans SOLD southern AZ fair and square. Nobody in Mexico’s government was much impressed with the scrub land and desert that yielded nothing.
