Sedona AZ (June 2, 2013) – In May 2007, Yavapai County Supervisor A. G. Davis started the Unsung Hero Award to “recognize people who encourage and enlighten others and make the County a better place to live.” Supervisor Davis chose to award Mark Buchmann of the “Mark in the Morning” KVRD radio show with the first Unsung Hero award.

“Throughout the years, we have had the privilege of meeting and presenting the award to 60 of Yavapai County’s finest volunteers. We have met coaches, people working with the disabled, people who have taken leading roles in the unincorporated areas, firemen, teachers that go above the call of duty, library workers, trail builders (the legal kind), trash picker uppers, people who help children in trouble, senior center workers – the list goes on and on. These people have all touched the lives of others, never asking for anything in return. They are what make Yavapai County such a great place to live and we know there’s more out there,” said Supervisor Davis explaining the award program.

Fittingly, KVRD radio “Mark in the Morning” show became the setting for the Unsung Hero award presentations which are simultaneously videotaped by Yavapai Broadcasting Company. The public can view the presentations at VerdeTV.com or on Channel 2. Local newspapers like the SedonaEye.com have been supportive of the program since its inception and publish articles about the winners.

So where do you fit into all of this?

“Well, we hope to one day meet you!” responded Davis. “But until then, maybe you know somebody who volunteers (not paid), who has touched your life, if so, let us know. It’s easy! All you need to do is write a brief paragraph stating what the person does, how long have they been volunteering, and why you think they should be the next Unsung Hero. You can email the nomination to deshannan.young@yavapai.us or mail it to me, Supervisor A.G. Davis, at 10 South 6th Street, Cottonwood, Arizona 86326. We will invite you to join us at the presentation and together thank the individual for everything they do.”
