The Promise Keepers

Sedona AZ (July 24, 2016) – The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor:

promise honorIs there anyone that remembers an old, old song, ditty or what we called a “round” that said, “Before you make a promise; consider well its importance. And when made, engrave it upon your heart?” That was way back when, in the olden days when I was young, which contrary to the opinions of some was not before they started keeping track of time.

At times, we would sing those words as a round, and I will never forget it. But then, too, I am not in the Political Arena.

In this election cycle we have seen a litany of unfulfilled and openly defied promises – some of which are disturbing or very disheartening. The ones that really hurt (at least my feelings) are those broken by people whom we trust or believe to have the “Moral Integrity” to do what they promise they will do.

Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump

2016 Republican National Convention selects Donald Trump as its Presidential nominee on the first round of delegate voting in Ohio

In the first 2016 GOP Presidential debate, the full field of seventeen candidates was separated for debate purposes into ten Major and seven Minor Candidates. The major candidates were all asked if they would pledge (promise) to support whichever GOP candidate won the Primary election and all of them readily agreed except Donald Trump. Mr. Trump said it would depend on how they treated him, for which he was sharply criticized by most if not all the other candidates, and especially by the “Talking Media Heads.” Then, after a time, Trump did agree to support whomsoever the winner of the Primary election would be – and he was still criticized for taking too long, among other things.

Fast forward the 2016 GOP Convention and the obvious, defiant absence of Jeb Bush, John Kasich and Marco Rubio, albeit Rubio did send a recorded speech. Ted Cruz spoke at the Convention although he still refused to endorse Donald Trump; the “Talking Media Heads” claimed it is because of the picture sent by Trump or his surrogates which was derogatory about Cruz’s wife, which I too wrote about at the time and was very critical of Trump’s actions which were in response to a very derogatory picture of Trump’s wife posted by a Cruz Super-Pac and which  Cruz had not (at least openly) condemned.

Donald Trump’s response was, in my opinion totally wrong: not because he responded but how he responded. I understand because Trump is and has been a “Tit-for-Tat Street Fighter” with the “You hit me, I’ll hit back in the same way, only harder” mentality, but I classed Trump’s response as stupid. [He is not the first nor will he be the last highly intelligent man (or female) to do something stupid.] In this case, Trump should have vehemently attacked Ted Cruz for not “Immediately, Publicly and Harshly Admonishing the Super-Pac” that was using Cruz’s name.

In this case, I seriously doubt Heidi Cruz of having anything to do with it. Still, nothing in all of the campaign mess justifies Ted Cruz’s violation of his Pledge, and the same applies to Jeb Bush, John Kasich and any others that “LIED WHEN THEY SWORE THAT LOYALTY PLEDGE.”

It is like having a caveat in a wedding vow that says something like “Until Death Us Do Part [or until one or the other does something that irritates]. Oh, wait, maybe that is already in the modern day vows!

Another point of contention was a ‘forwarded Tweet’ about Ted Cruz’s dad and if there was nothing to it, I think it should have been ignored, but it was used to try to deepen a brand of Racist against Trump.

GOP 2016 Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz

Ted Cruz is OBVIOUSLY STILL TRYING to destroy Trump’s election and although I FULLY SUPPORTED his actions when he filibustered and turned the “Establishment RepublicRATS” against him, now you have “Hypocrisy Running Amuck” in those thought to be solid conservatives – namely; Mike Lee (U.S. Senator, R-Utah), Glenn Beck (Author, Radio and TV Personality), Mark Levin (Author, Lawyer and Radio Personality) – people whom I held in high esteem, but now when I hear the vitriol they spew, I tune them out.

I intend to help Donald J. Trump in his plan to “MAKE AMERICA GREAT, AGAIN.”

Vote with your conscience it just about the right tone…

As for the ones who love to talk Constitution and Bill Of Rights…

How in the world could one give one to to this man?….

For far to many Americans born and raised here, we talk an awful lot for granted…

People scream out and lie continuously about the 2nd amendment, while they have no problem with all the rest trampled on….

    Good Luck.

His son died after being shot 12 times by police officers (after his son had previously killed an officer) and his brother was murdered by drug dealers. Rather than burn down the block he has risen to run one of the largest police departments in the nation.

He is Chief David Brown, head of the Dallas Police Department. This week he saw five of his officers murdered during a peaceful rally in Dallas. He is one of many #HeroesInBlue actively working to make our communities a better, safer place.

Thank you for your service, Chief Brown. Keep up the great work.
