The Day After

Sedona, AZ – Editorial By Tommy Acosta…

Watching president Obama’s inauguration and listening to speech, for a very brief moment, hope flashed in me for the future.

Could it be true? Could this man bring this nation together to face the challenges ahead and right the wrongs of the previous administration?

The millions who thronged to be there shown like beacons as TV cameras swept over the multitude, their happy, joyous faces brimming with new-found fervor and belief in a leader, a new leader, a real leader.

I too felt it, this surge of hope, this feeling maybe, maybe things can truly change and a new way of being and living in our world could be born.

But, like always, reality slapped me awake.

Those who profit from the misery of the planet will not let this man succeed. They will stop him the same way throughout history they stopped anyone who truly represented goodness and hope for humanity.

The stock market plunged more than 300 points on the day he took office. Right there, that should tell us all something.

But we can dream. We can imagine. We can visualize President Obama reversing the onslaught on our Constitution the former administration waged.

We can imagine him lifting our international reputation to where it once was before it was sullied.

We can visualize billions, maybe trillions of dollars spent to build factories that will produce solar power and wind-power equipment and to build schools to elevate our youth beyond the ceilings placed upon them by a system that raises more cogs than wheels.

We can see him personally reaching out to the enemy and finding a middle ground where all countries and religions can live peacefully and respectfully together.

We can imagine him diverting the billions spent in war to feeding the nation’s hungry; decriminalizing medical marijuana; and rehabilitating lawbreakers — perhaps even balancing the Supreme Court once again.

But will those who maintain their riches and power through war, oil, making money from disease and the sorrows of humanity allow him to do so?

Unlikely…They will give him only so much rope. They will engineer the collapse of the banking system and suck every spare dollar to bailing out the bankers and CEOs of the major financial and corporate institutions.

They will foment more war than the new president can handle. They will create so much chaos in the country and the world Obama will be left with his hands tied, incapable of doing much anything except dance to the tune of those who are really in control.

He will be made the scapegoat of the manipulators and blame will be placed on him for the massive failures being prepared for him.

He will not only be the first President of color our country had. He will also be the last.

I pray I am wrong.

Until proven otherwise, I will, like so many millions of others, believe in hope and support the great leap forward Obama represents.

God bless America. God bless Obama.
