Sedona Offers Community and Visitors Park Campout

Sedona AZ (August 29, 2011) – Back by popular demand, Sedona Arizona is offering the community and visitors an opportunity to camp at beautiful Sunset Park on Friday and Saturday, September 23 and 24, 2011. The city park is located at 655 Sunset Drive, west Sedona. For only $15 per tent, participants can join others for a night of camping under the stars, crafts for kids, telescope star viewing, hiking, and a group yoga class in the morning. This event is great for first time campers as well as seasoned campers that want to enjoy camping close to home.

Included in the $15 registration fee? A hot dog roast, courtesy of Parks and Recreation and New Frontiers Natural Marketplace. The Sedona Historical Society is sponsoring crafts for kids and when the stars come out, members of Astronomers of the Verde Valley will be on site with telescopes for you to use. Join other campers around the bonfire and enjoy roasting s’mores provided by Parks and Recreation.

On Saturday, a continental breakfast will be served to campers followed by yoga classes for both adults and children. Those interested in taking a hike on nearby Carroll Canyon trail will be given a map to guide them. Proper hiking attire and supplies are recommended if you hike. Children may enjoy a short, guided hike on Lollipop trail in the morning following the yoga classes. Tent removal from the Sunset Park field will be no later than 10:00 AM on Saturday so plan accordingly.

This may be the community and visitors final chance to camp in a City park this year, so don’t miss out. The registration deadline is Wednesday, September 21, 2011. Contact the City of Sedona Parks and Recreation Department at (928) 282-7098 or visit its offices at City Hall, 102 Roadrunner Drive, to register.
