Sedona Needs Planning and Zoning Volunteers

Sedona AZ – The City of Sedona is currently seeking to fill two positions on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Both are three-year terms, from November 1, 2011 through October 31, 2014. The deadline to submit applications to be considered to serve on the Planning and Zoning Commission is Monday, September 26, 2011 at 5:00 pm. Sedona residents with an interest in land use planning and development are encouraged to apply.  

The Commission plays a critical role in the City’s planning process as they serve as the Council’s advisor on land use planning topics. The Commission is also involved in important community issues and considers goals and policies for directing and managing future development. Duties include reviewing, evaluating and making recommendations to the Council on Community Plan and Land Development Code amendments, rezonings and subdivision applications. Additionally, the Commission makes the final decision on conditional use permits and development review applications.  

It is desirable that Planning and Zoning Commissioners have some experience or knowledge in land use or related fields, including but not limited to architecture, construction, landscaping, and planning. This voluntary Commission is made up of seven citizens appointed by City Council.     At their December 13, 2011 meeting, Sedona City Council re-appointed Michael Hadley and Norman Taylor to serve on the Planning and Zoning Commission for another three years.

    The Planning and Zoning Commission plays a critical role in the City’s planning process as they serve as City Council’s adviser on land use planning topics.
