Folksville USA Mayor Talks Trash

Sedona AZ (March 30, 2010) – As the Mayor of Folksville, a virtual town, and Editor of its Folksville News, I would like our 521 residents to know that we have a new mailing address at PO Box 1138, Cornville, AZ 86325.

Our official “Folksville Town Hall” location remains within Randall’s Restaurant, Cottonwood Arizona. Our website is in development (www.FolksvilleUSA.com) and a new e-mail address (FolksvilleUSA@gmail.com) exists.

In the Town of Folksville we don’t endorse any political parties, candidates or issues, however we do give a “BIG” thanks to those who notice and publicly acknowledge the people in Folksville that participate in our litter abatement and recycling activities.

I have been negligent in reporting several stories in 2009 and 2010 while touring America the Beautiful. I will be bringing those 2009 stories and several new 2010 stories to you soon.

December 19-21, 2009.

During my holiday trip from Cornville, AZ to Portland, OR, many businesses along the way donated raffle prizes to our Arizona litter abatement efforts even though we were from another state. We wish to thank the following businesses and Store Managers who invested in our Arizona effort:

STARBUCKS: Barstow, CA (Daniel Enders), Ashland, OR (Rani Dassey), San Carlos, CA (Ben Wathne) and Tigard, OR (Kristin McGuirk); IN-N-OUT BURGERS Restaurants: Stockton, CA (Patrick Campbell); and, PANDA EXPRESS of Tigard, OR (Mone Taphom). THANKS!

December 6, 2009.

Ed Helgeson and I gathered all 36 bags of litter collected on SR Highway 260 during the December 5, 2009 litter recovery by the VVPOA. We sorted out all recyclables at Randall’s Restaurant and Randall’s donated its dumpster for all non-recyclable items. There were 72 plastic bottles, 37 glass bottles, 42 aluminum beer and soda cans plus miscellaneous recyclable items.

Recyclable items were donated to Sedona Recycles.

Ed Helgeson folded all reusable litter bags which will be used during future litter recoveries. Home Depot in Cottonwood has provided many of the litter bags required due to ADOT Adopt-A-Highway Programs financial difficulties and inability to provide bags. BRAVO to ED for his outstanding anti-litter effort and HOME DEPOT COTTONWOOD for its community support!

December 5, 2009.

The Verde Valley Property Owners Association (VVPOA) recovered 36 ADOT Adopt-A-Highway bags of litter from SR Highway 260 between MP-207 and 209. Mal Otterson, 83 Years young, and Roy Buck, Beth Cady and 19 other proud American’s braved the cold morning air to pick up someone else’s illegally dumped litter. Where is the shame, you who toss litter and ugly our American highways?

November 21, 2009.

Fry’s Grocery Store Manager, Mike Lamb, donated $587.13 worth of chickens and hams to the Original “Road Warriors/Culture Warriors/CSI Participants” for their community litter abatement efforts and to support a food bank request from PIC Lighthouse Mission.

PIC Lighthouse Mission promised that all recipients of the donated food would help with one of the 2010 litter recovery events on Scenic Highway 89A. PIC Lighthouse Mission had all food delivered to Living Waters Retreat Center in Cornville. The one day food storage was provided by Living Water Retreat Center as a favor to PIC Lighthouse Mission prior to their distribution to deserving families.

Please visit  “The Sedona Times”  or visit Randall’s Restaurant located at 891 S. Main St., Cottonwood, AZ for a summary of our 2009 efforts.

Direct all questions and comments to the Mayor of Folksville at FolksvilleUSA@gmail.com and or PO Box 1138, Cornville, AZ 86325. Our main goal is to restore the “Beauty” to America the Beautiful!

Folksville is totally dependent upon donations to cover direct expenses, so please consider mailing a donation of $5 or more. Donations may also be left at Randall’s Restaurant. It’s hard work to pick up others trash and its a continual, on-going need. If you cannot physically help, we could surely use your donation to provide snacks and water for volunteer workers, and purchase bags and gloves. Let us know that you care about what we do for you. If you know of an organization or group that can volunteer to help out occasionally, please let me know at folksvilleusa@gmail.com.
