Dog Obedience Is Back

Sedona Parks and Recreation has gone to the dogs!  Dog obedience that is.  Our very popular fall classes are back in action for the spring.  This time around you will have three different types of courses to choose from, all being taught by Instructor Starr Ladehoff who has over 23 years experience training animals.  Let Starr help you achieve
teaching basic skills to your four-legged friend.

Choose from three options: Mini-Course, Basic Obedience-Novice, and Every Day & Emergency Recall Workshop – Building the Foundation to Teach Your Dog to Come to You at All Times.

The Mini-Course (4 weeks) is designed for those who do not wish to take a full 7 week basic obedience course but want to teach the necessary and most popular commands for a well mannered dog: loose leash walking,
recall (come) and stay.  This class will be held on Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. or on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  This class is $50 per dog and will begin April 6 and April 10 and is held at Sunset Park.

Basic Obedience-Novice (7 weeks) is a great opportunity to teach your dog all of the basic commands: heel, sit, sit-stay, down, down-stay recall (come) and stand for examination. For those who want to show their dogs, or for those who just want to have a dog that knows several basic commands, this is the course to start with.  This class will be held on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  This class is $75 per dog and will begin April 7 and is held at Sunset Park.

Every Day & Emergency Recall Workshop (4 weeks) is the beginning to training your dog to come to you no matter what the situation is. This is an accelerated workshop to get you started. The conditioned response may take up to a year to be highly effective but after going through the workshop, you will have all of the tools and knowledge to complete the
training. Dogs who have been through obedience class may have quicker results but it is not necessary to take obedience lessons first.  This class is held Mondays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  This class is $50 per
dog and will begin April 5 and is held at Posse Grounds Park upper softball field.

Registration is being accepted for all classes through the Parks and Recreation Department.  You may walk in to register, 102 Roadrunner Drive, or call 928-282-7098 to register over the phone.  Minimum age of participants is 10 years of age and children must be accompanied by an adult.  Minimum age of dog is 4 months with current
vaccinations.  Required equipment for the class is 5-6 foot leash, 30-foot lead, large link choke chain properly sized and a regular
collar.  For more detailed class descriptions please reference our City website at www.SedonaAZ.gov/Parks.
