Doctor Says Smart Meters Public Health Catastrophe

Smart meters increase Dirty Electricity, a potent carcinogen, testifies Dr. Sam Milham before the California Council on Science and Technology

Sedona AZ (December 12, 2012) – Nancy Baer, Sedona resident, presented a “public comment” during the City of Sedona Council Meeting on December 11, 2012. Her comment is as follows:

Dirty Electricity’s author, Dr. Sam Milham, states that smart meters pose more potential danger than RF radiation.

Milham wrote in his response to the California Council on Science and Technology report (“Health Impacts of Radio Frequency from Smart Meters” published in January, 2011):

“My hypothesis is easy enough to test. Dirty electricity levels measured in homes, offices and schools should increase after the meters are deployed. Dirty electricity levels measured in the utility drops and in the earth will also increase as the meters are deployed. Since dirty electricity is a potent carcinogen (see attached paper and pp. 78-80 in my book), and causes numerous other health problems, the only way to avoid a public health catastrophe is to send the smart meter information over existing telephone land lines or go back to the analog meters.”

Another Health Issue with Smart Meters: Dirty Electricity and Switching-Mode Power Supply

Dirty Electricity” occurs when many electrical devices are operating simultaneously reducing their currents to be compatible with 60-Hertz Alternating Current (AC) or Direct Current (DC). The currents travel through all wires and electrical systems in homes and buildings. It’s seen as; voltage spikes, surges, as well as frequency variations, or “high frequency voltage transients,” that combine forming a complex and potentially harmful electromagnetic field.

This seeps into the immediate environment through; outlets, power strips, electronic devices, and cords/wires, while exposing the living organisms inside the buildings to electromagnetic pollution.

Smart’ meters contain a ‘switching-mode power supply’ component (SMPS) that decreases the 240v alternating current (AC) from utility pole power lines for compatibility with 2 to 10 volts of direct current (DC) necessary to record electricity usage. It produces sharp spikes of millisecond bursts of electromagnetic frequency, constantly, and in perpetuity.

Electrical engineer and power supply expert, Dave Stetzer, explaining the human body’s response to pulsing radiation, suggests we “think of a magnet, opposite charges attract, and the like charges repel . . . Remember these positive-negative shifts are occurring many thousands of times per second, so the electrons in your body are oscillating to that tune. Your body becomes charged up because you’re basically coupled to the transient’s electrical field. Because our cells use electricity to communicate with each other, research suggests that “by overlapping the body’s signaling mechanisms, transient frequencies may interfere with the secretion of insulin, drown out the call-and-response of the immune system, and cause other physical havoc.”

  1. I support a no fees opt-out to electromechanical analog meters (legacy style) that do not emit RF radiation. I know one Centerpoint customer who is quite ill from the smart meters on her home – so please make this decision swiftly. She can barely stand being in her home due to the RF radiation and the health impacts it is causing. http://www.electrosmogprevention.org

  2. Warren says:

@Susan Brinchman – Some people with analog meters cannot live with the RF from neighbors’ “smart” meters. Short of selling and moving, how does someone “opt out” from that? People should be able to enjoy their private property without the RF pollution of others trespassing.

Utilities are taking a system which has worked successfully for about 100 years and ruining it. RF is not the only issue that makes “smart” metering something we will all regret.
