Sedona AZ (December 10, 2013)The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor thanking the Mayor of Camp Verde and a local school for anti litter efforts:

Dear Town of Camp Verde Mayor German,

Thank you for taking the time to recognize the efforts of those which pick up highway litter, and hopefully other Mayors will follow your lead.

Since the Town of Camp Verde has become more involved in highway and community litter the results are being noticed.

Recently the American Heritage Academy students and teachers took on the task of removing litter from Finnie Flats Road four times per year, and hopefully other schools in the community will make this their goal.

November 2013 was a big month for removing highway litter. Between November 8 and November 17, there were 184 bags of trash picked up on Highway 89A between Cottonwood and Sedona plus Highway 260 between Cottonwood and Camp Verde by the following groups:

  • The Highway 89A groups were:  Rio Verde Roverett’s, Inc. MP 355-356, Immaculate Conception Parish MP 357-358, Knights of Columbus Council #2493, Sedona Boy Scout Troop #48 MP 360-361, Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition MP 361-362, Sedona Pines LLC MP 364-365, Sedona Pines Resort MP 365-366 and Rotary Club of Sedona MP 369-370.
  • The Highway 260 groups were:  Verde Village Property Owners Association MP 207–209, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department MP 212-213, Highlands Resort at Verde Ridge MP 217-218, American Legion Family Post #93 MP 219-220 and Copper Canyon Academy MP 224-225.

Many hands with one goal can make a difference but it can never be the same people doing all the work. These folks deserve our recognition.

Respectfully,

Gary Chamberlain
