Sedona AZ (October 24, 2014) – U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., announced that District One is the recipient of about $12.2 million in recent grants for a variety of important projects and services, including Head Start, regional airports, tribal diabetes programs, criminal justice resources and STEM learning centers.
About $10.6 million of the grant resources will help Native American tribes in District One. In recent weeks, Kirkpatrick has also announced significant transportation and infrastructure grants of $5 million for the Navajo Nation and $2.9 million for the Hopi Tribe.
“Grants that improve transportation, infrastructure, education and health services have an impact on our local economies and our daily lives,” said Kirkpatrick, who represents 12 Native American tribes in District One. “A vast, diverse district like ours has many region-specific needs, particularly in our tribal communities, so I’m pleased to see such a depth of resources coming our way.”
