Three Arrests in Separate Child Abuse Cases

Seth Overson of Dewey Arizona arrested for beating a 5-year-old bloody

Sedona AZ (November 25, 2012) – On November 19, 2012, at approximately 7:30 AM, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call for help in the 1600 block of Wait a Minute Way, Dewey, Arizona.

Upon arrival, deputies contacted 34-year-old Seth Overson at the front door. He admitted arguing with his wife but could not understand why deputies were called. During a welfare check inside the home, deputies found Overson’s 5-year-old son in a bedroom bleeding from his nose and mouth. A further exam revealed bruising on the little boy’s face and upper body.

The five-year-old boy initially told deputies the injuries were due to a recent fall, but later admitted his dad was the cause.

Deputies discovered Overson had choked his son and struck him with a plastic curtain rod. Overson eventually admitted assaulting his child to deputies.

Overson’s wife and 11-month old child were not injured. The injured five year-old boy was transported to Yavapai Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Overson was booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges including Child Abuse, Assault on a Child, and Assault Resulting in Serious Injury.

Overson remains in-custody on a $120,000 bond.

Robert Stafford arrested in Bagdad Arizona for felony child abuse

A second child abuse case involving two young children occurred in Bagdad, Arizona

Within recent days, YCSO deputies had been dispatched several times to a home in the 300 block of Fletcher Drive, Bagdad, regarding domestic violence and child and animal neglect issues.

Children’s Protective Services was also conducting an investigation into the welfare of the two children in the Bagdad home, ages 9 months and 2 years. The involved suspects are identified as 26-year-old Robert Stafford, the father, and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Zylvoria Walton.

The 9-month-old baby requires nourishment via a feeding tube placed in its abdomen. Walton was an admitted caretaker for both children when Stafford was away. On these prior contacts, deputies warned Stafford and Walton that conditions inside their home were becoming unfit for the children.

Garbage, dirty laundry, and dog feces were found throughout the home, including the children’s rooms. A bag of food in a feeding bag, meant for the infant’s special needs, was found spoiled in the kitchen. The infant was eventually seen by a doctor who found a serious infection, conceivably life-threatening, at the feeding tube site in the infant’s abdomen.

Deputies noted that on several prior occasions, both Stafford and Walton were given ample opportunity to rectify living conditions in the home and had made no effort to do so. As the environment for the children continued to deteriorate, and in light of the infant’s recent medical findings, deputies developed probable cause to arrest the children’s father and girlfriend.

On November 12, 2012, Stafford and Walton were booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges including two counts of Felony Child Abuse.

Stafford and Walton each remain in-custody on a $150,000 bond.

CPS has taken custody of both children in the Stafford and Walton home. The dogs have been removed from the home and placed with a Prescott area animal shelter.
