Paving on State Route 89A Begins

Sedona AZ-Paving on State Route 89A from Mingus Mountain to Jerome begins next week and delays are expected Monday through Thursday until mid-August.

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will begin a paving project on the highway from the top of Mingus Mountain into Jerome on Monday, August 1 2011. The six-mile long highway resurfacing project is scheduled for completion mid-August.

The $560,000 ADOT project will include the removal of a layer of the existing pavement and the application of a new layer of pavement. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Drivers should expect heavy truck traffic through Jerome and delays of up to 30 minutes

SR 89A will be reduced to one lane and crews will direct traffic through the work zone in alternating directions. Drivers should allow additional time to reach destinations. ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
