How I Voted

By Tommy Acosta — On March 2, I voted. It was perhaps the most important vote I ever made in my life because so much depends on it. It was a thrill and honor for me.

In the last election, I remember waiting until the last minute with another Sedona citizen. We wanted to cast the last votes because we knew they would be the two votes that would decide who gets elected mayor. Our votes would be the deciders. Well, we were right. Those were the two votes that put Mayor Rob Adams over the top.

This time around I voted early because I already know who is going to win in this election.

I voted for Rob Adams again because he has shown he can take a lickin’ and keep on tickin’. He endured a council majority steadfast against him thwarting him at every turn. He persisted. He grew gracefully into his role as mayor. He tamed an unruly council and public and brought civility to the proceedings. He struck to his guns. He met challenges head on. And he deserves another two years, not to mention he favors dark skies, NSA and democracy.

I voted for Barbara Litrell because of her commitment to the beauty of Sedona and her formidable leadership skills. She too has shown grace under fire and an indomitable will to follow the will of the people, not to mention she is for dark skies, NSA and democracy.

I voted for Dennis Rayner because I have been at almost every council meeting and he has always there. His is a passion for the welfare of Sedona unmatched. He is wise, determined, and not afraid to put on a sign and walk up and down the town’s main streets letting people know how he feels, not to mention he is for dark skies, NSA and democracy.

I voted for Don McIlroy because he has ethics and morality shining in his eyes. There is an inner strength hidden yet waiting beneath the surface to stand for justice and what is right. He believes in following the will of the people and believes in America, not to mention he is for dark skies, NSA and democracy.

I voted for Mile Ward because of his tenacity and determination to serve. He is also an educator who did his homework on the vital issues affecting Sedona. He will bring knowledge and sage advice to the council, not to mention he is for dark skies, NSA and democracy.

And I voted against Prop 400, a splinter in the eye of the Constitution of the United States of America.

In my prediction I will not get too specific other than to say Prop 400 will be defeated by a landslide. Mayor Adams will be re-elected. Litrell will be elected and there will be a new council majority.

Nuff said.
