Grand Canyon Association Appoints New Board Members

grand canyon association logoSedona AZ (February 6, 2014) – The Grand Canyon Association appointed four new members to its volunteer Board of Directors. The board is comprised of business and community leaders who commit time and expertise to the benefit and improvement of the association, the official non-profit partner of Grand Canyon National Park. New members joining the board are:

Karan English, Flagstaff

Former Arizona Congresswoman Karan English has a rich background in conservation efforts and protecting the environment. While serving in the 103rd Congress (1993–1995), she was appointed to the Natural Resources and Education and Labor committees. After Congress, English returned to Flagstaff where she worked with the National Democratic Institute of International Affairs as a consultant for countries developing democratic institutions. Most recently English has worked at Northern Arizona University’s Landsward Institute providing internships, scholarships and applied opportunities for students with an environmental focus.

Robert (Bob) Hostetler, Monument, Colorado

Robert Hostetler has a long history in executive management in the electronics and telecommunications industry. He has served as chief executive officer at CTS Corporation, Choice TV Group and American Telecasting, Inc. He also served as chairman of the American Electronics Association. Bob lives in Monument, Colorado, and has a passion for the Parks. He has been actively involved in the Rocky Mountain Nature Association, Friends of Red Rock Canyon and Friends of Garden of the Gods in addition to the Grand Canyon Association.

Julie Klapstein, Tucson

Julie Klapstein has more than 30 years of experience in the health care information technology industry including founding CEO of Availity, CEO of Phycom, Inc., executive vice president at Sunquest Information Systems; SMS’ Turnkey Systems Division (now Siemens Medical Systems), and GTE Health Systems. She currently serves on the board of directors for Standard Register (SR – document and marketing services), Annie’s Homegrown, Inc. (BNNY – organic and natural foods), Dominion Diagnostics (laboratory services) and serves on the advisory board of Riverside Partners and Operating Council at Solera Capital. She has been active with the United Way and on the boards of the Jacksonville Humane Society and the NE Florida Lyme Association.

Theresa McMullan, Phoenix

Theresa McMullan has more than 20 years of marketing experience. As the Vice President of Marketing for SkyMall in Phoenix, Theresa brings a unique marketing background in both product development and national advertising to the board. Prior to joining SkyMall, she was the co-founder and president of a strategic marketing firm. She has spoken at several conferences about e-commerce and served on the board of the New Mexico Advertising Federation and as an advisor to the Global Retail Marketing Association. Theresa is an avid hiker and enjoys exploring the Grand Canyon backcountry.

The all-volunteer, 15-member GCA board is comprised of members primarily from the Southwest. The current board chair is Phoenix resident Christine Muldoon, and the vice chair is Stephen Watson of Clarksville, Maryland

Founded in 1932, the Grand Canyon Association (GCA) is the National Park Service’s official nonprofit partner raising private funds to benefit Grand Canyon National Park, operating retail shops and visitor centers within the park, and providing premier educational opportunities about the natural and cultural history of the region. GCA works to help preserve and protect Grand Canyon National Park by cultivating support, education and understanding of the park.
