Yavapai College OLLI Invites Public to Facilitator Workshop

On Wednesday, December 8, from 10 am-1 pm, OLLI of Sedona and the Verde Valley will be offering a Facilitator Workshop. The workshop will be held at Clarkdale’s Yavapai College Verde Campus, 601 Black Hills Drive, in the Multipurpose Room Building, M 137.

This workshop combines instruction on useful technologies for facilitating learning groups, workshops, and presentations. It includes a free facilitator appreciation luncheon thanking Fall 2010 facilitators for their contributions who will share their experiences in an informal gathering.

OLLI class participants

Current and future OLLI facilitators from Verde and Sedona are invited as well as anyone interested in learning more about facilitating at OLLI. There will also be a brief orientation regarding administrative procedures and operating the classroom technology.

Participants can attend all or parts of the workshop. If there a particular topic or craft that you would enjoy sharing with mature, inquisitive and dynamic adults, then you are highly encouraged to attend this event. OLLI is fortunate to have a dedicated team of volunteer facilitators from all walks of life that lead trips, classes, workshops, garden and bird watching tours, hikes, adventures in social networking and related technology, culinary classes, and much more.

From astronomy to astrology, from politics to Wabi Sabi, from belly dancing to chair yoga, there is a class or workshop to meet the curiosity of everyone.

You do not have to be a retired professor from a university to facilitate a class. If you feel that you have valuable life experience, have researched a topic well in your life, are a professional that might have valuable information for mature adults, or have a passion for a craft or hobby, you can be an OLLI facilitator!

There is no greater reward than to share what you love with others. OLLI students come to class because they genuinely want to learn and meet new people.

The schedule for the December 8 event is as follows:

10:00 – 10:45 AM – The Power of PowerPoint –An opportunity to learn how PowerPoint can be used to enhance learning groups, presentations and workshops.

11:00 – 11:45 AM – The Wide, Wide World of YouTube – Learn how this free internet resource can provide audio/visual enhancements to any learning group, presentation, or workshop. It is like having the Smithsonian Institute in your classroom.

Noon – 1:00 PM – Facilitator Appreciation Luncheon and Idea Sharing – Join us for a free catered meal where we can informally share ideas about facilitating.

1:00 – 1:30 PM – Administrative Procedures – OLLI Staff

1:30 – 2:00 PM – Operation of Room C-109 Technology

OLLI of Sedona and the Verde Valley is a dynamic organization within Yavapai College created to meet the needs of intellectually active mature adults. What makes OLLI a unique learning experience is that there is no pressure of tests, grades, or papers. It is a warm gathering of people who are endlessly curious and love to learn.

RSVP by December 3 via email to Kathleen.Kline@yc.edu or by phone: 649 5550 – Please indicate which session(s) you will be attending.
