VOC Fire Fundraiser Scheduled

Sedona AZ (June 5, 2012) – Please help the Village of Oak Creek community raise funds for residents who lost homes in the Sedona Arizona Village of Oak Creek fire.

Please tell us how you can help for the June 19, 2012 fundraiser at Canyon Moon Theatre in the VOC from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. by contacting Dana De Luz (see information below).

We are still looking for help with outdoor fun during the “Sedona Cares” fundraiser on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Village of Oak Creek Outlet Mall. We need someone to honcho up supervision for our two “Jolly Jumpers” and I could use a few more carnival-type game booths.

I have some games that are ready and just need a group to run them. Also, face painters and a balloon artist are needed.

Contact me, Dana De Luz, at 928-862-0118. Thanks!

Sedona Eye News Update: Please read the following comments regarding the Village of Oak Creek fire by local SFD Fire Marshall, Gary J. Johnson. The comments were not part of the official Sedona Fire press release:

Communication Supervisor Jeff Jennings :  “Within first hour, Sedona Fire Communications handled 137 phone calls including 52 9-1-1 calls in the first 15 minutes at the same time handling additional unit requests and coordinating multiple move ups.”

Captain Dave Cochrane (first arriving engine officer):  “Our initial plan was to keep the fires to the original structures. Because of the high winds we did not want the fire to jump the road and damage more homes in the neighborhood.”

Sedona Fire Chief Kris Kazian:  “I was in the Chapel area house shopping when the fire broke, I responded immediately and was amazed to see the amount of fire on my arrival. Initial crews did an amazing job to keep the damage to the 2 structures that were fully involved on our arrival.”

“It was great to see the way all agencies worked together- We had assistance from Verde Valley Fire and Ambulance, US Forest Service and DPS even did a fly-over for us on scene. YCSO did an amazing job with helping with evacuations and traffic control as well as Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) helped with the families coordinating efforts to get them through the initial stages as it is very overwhelming. Montezuma-Rimrock and Cottonwood covered our stations during the incident as well.”

“Our crews worked tirelessly. They went through many tanks of air and some needed to get an IV with some fluids to maintain hydration. Everyone gave 110% that afternoon and the results showed. I am very proud of our people and their skill and professionalism. I am also amazed at all of the residents who made a huge difference with the garden hoses. We had people on the roofs putting out gutter fires (pine needles) and people putting out grass fires and cooling down structures. We had a few large propane tanks that we had concerns with as well! It was a community effort in many ways!”

Note: The fire is still under investigation. I will keep you updated in on my progress.

    Hi Dance Enthusiasts!

If you don’t know how to Wobble yet, come out to the Sedona Cares Fair on the 19th of June and learn. The fair runs from 9am – 6pm at the Oak Creek Factory Outlet Mall in the VOC. I’ll let you know when I’ll be teaching the Wobble as soon as I know my stage time ; ) I’m so excited to teach the Wobble. It’s fun, infectious and easy!

Come spend some time at the fair. Bring the kids, grandkids and that little kid inside of you! Play some good old fashioned carnival games, dunk the Fire Chief and many more BIG WIGS, get some great food and baked goods, buy raffle tickets, join in on the silent auction and enjoy the performances on stage all day.

Looking for something to do indoors? Wander down the Mall to Canyon Moon Theatre and catch a show! Some really great musicians and performers stepped up to help out their pal Sammy Davis and the other fire victims. Tickets for the 2 pm and 4 pm shows are $15.00 and the Extravaganza Show at 7:30 pm includes a post-production reception with the performers (like me)! Tickets for the 7:30 pm show are $35.00. Call or stop by Canyon Moon for tickets now!

I hope to see you all doing the Wobble and enjoying the fair!

All proceeds will be shared by the 3 local families who lost their homes, possessions, and pets due to the fires in May. If you’d like to donate on-line – try using our Give Forward site.http://www.giveforward.com/sedonafirefundraiser
