Spring Introduction to Astronomy

Sedona AZ (February 9, 2010) – The City of Sedona Parks and Recreation Department offers an introduction to Astronomy, an interactive educational and entertaining evening under dark skies beginning at 6: 30 PM on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Posse Grounds Park, 525 Posse Grounds Road, west Sedona.

This is a free event so reserve class space early.

Participants will be taught about the spring and summer time constellations along with the viewing of planets, double stars, nebula and galaxies. The red planet Mars will be visible in the East with the ringed planet Saturn rising soon after. The evening will begin with a presentation on the highlights of the spring and summer Milky Way.

Following the PowerPoint presentation (7:30 p.m.), participants will be given the opportunity to view the objects they just learned about through provided telescopes.

Do you have a telescope you never learned how to use? Bring your own telescope and let our team of amateur astronomers show you how to properly care for and set up the equipment.

Pre-registration is appreciated so that the class minimum is secured. Reserve your spot by contacting Parks and Recreation at 928-282-7098. Additional information may be obtained at www.SedonaAZ.gov/Parks. Be the first to know and follow the Sedona Eye Calendar for daily event listings!
