Sedona Receives $371K Federal Grant

Sedona AZ–The Community Development Block Grant Funds Public Hearing is scheduled for October 27th at City Hall. The City of Sedona is expected to receive approximately $371,473 of fiscal year 2011 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.   The CDBG program is federally funded and administered through the Arizona Department of Housing Regional Account.   The Sedona City Council will hold a public hearing on October 27, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. in the Vultee Conference Room at Sedona City Hall for the public to suggest and provide input on possible uses for these funds.

CDBG projects must meet one of three national objectives: benefit low and moderate-income individuals; eliminate slum and blight; and meet other urgent community needs.  Typical program areas include infrastructure, (water and wastewater, street improvements), community facilities (health clinics, senior and youth centers), housing (new construction, replacement, rehabilitation, utility connections on private property), public services (salary for additional staff for a Head Start program, purchasing vehicles to transport people with disabilities) and economic development (business loan for job creation, micro-enterprise development).

The CDBG program is a great resource and has long provided funding for projects improving the quality of life for hundreds of Sedona residents.  Previous funding has been used to replace and rehabilitate dilapidated homes, improve and upgrade the Sedona Community Center, improve energy efficiency through residential weatherization programs and offer financial assistance to offset residential sewer connection fees.

If you have ideas for prospective uses for the fiscal year 2011 CDBG funds, please plan to attend the October 27, 2010 public hearing or forward your ideas to the City for possible consideration prior to the hearing date.  Only uses proposed at the public hearing will be considered.

For more information on the CDBG program, contact Audree Juhlin, Assistant Director, at the Department of Community Development at (928) 204-7107.
