Sedona Observational Astronomy Workshop

Sedona AZ–Sedona Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer an educational and entertaining evening under the stars.  Please join us for an interactive “Introduction to Observational and Visual Astronomy” on March 10, 2011 beginning promptly at 6:30 p.m. in the Teen Center located at 525-B Posse Ground Road.

Participants will be taught about the springtime constellations Orion, Leo and Ursa Major (Big Dipper) along with the viewing of planets, double stars, nebula and galaxies. The ringed planet Saturn will be visible in the East after 9:00 p.m.  The evening will begin with a presentation on the highlighted constellations of the spring Milky Way with take home sky maps.  Following the PowerPoint presentation at 7:30 p.m., participants will be given the opportunity to view the objects they just learned about through telescopes provided.

Do you have a telescope you never learned how to use?  Bring your own telescope and let our team of amateur astronomers show you how to properly care for and set up the equipment.

This is a free event, but pre-registration is appreciated so that the class minimum is secured. Please reserve your spot by contacting Parks and Recreation at 282-7098.  Additional information may be obtained at www.SedonaAz.gov/Parks
