Fred Shinn with City Manager Ernster at City of Sedona award ceremony

Sedona AZ (September 11, 2013) – On Monday, September 9, 2013, the City of Sedona first “I Caught You Caring” award was presented to Fred Shinn, a volunteer with the Sedona Police Department. This is a new award program for staff and volunteers who provide exceptional customer service and go “above and beyond the call of duty.”

Sedona Police Sergeant Kevin Ahern nominated Shinn for his assistance locating a missing elderly man with Alzheimer’s who had wandered away from an uptown Sedona hotel room. According to Sgt. Ahern, “Fred’s assistance was invaluable and much needed given the area that needed to be searched. Mr. Shinn, without being called upon, took it upon himself to assist in the search with several public safety personnel. He found the missing man in the early morning and safely returned him to his family.”

Sedona City Manager Tim Ernster presented Shinn with the I Caught You Caring traveling trophy and two movie tickets.

The SedonaEye.com Harley McGuire, Star Pet Columnist, sends a Shout Out to Officer Ahern and Fred Shinn saying, “Four Paws Up! The Sedona Police Department and its volunteers make all Sedona proud!”

  1. Just because my Harley McGuire gave his “Four Paws Up” to this worthwhile cause, the pressure is on for me to give a nod of approval to the article he’s been “hounding” me to write as in ho-hum . . . boring as it might be. Oh well . . . but first he needs to recover from the shakes after all the thunder, lightening and, yes, even loud rain on the roof.

    Lovingly,
    Ma Kettle

  2. If all are as kind and considerate what a great place to live.

It’s Sunday and I have time to say thank you for a smart news feed. I use your news to open my class each morning and we chose a story to discuss for five minutes. The story about the man who fell to his death generated the most interest this month. Even those who can’t be bothered with school had something to say! I was reminded again how little empathy there is today. On the bright side I heard one wise comment from an unexpected mouth that gave me pause to self-reflect. To say I like your news is not enough!
