Sedona Fills Planning and Zoning and Housing Commission Seats

Sedona AZ–At the February 8, 2011 Sedona City Council meeting, members of the City Council appointed Geoffrey Messer and Eric Brandt to serve on its Planning and Zoning Commission. The Planning and Zoning Commission plays a critical role in the City of Sedona’s planning process as it serves as an advisor to the City Council on land use planning topics. The Planning and Zoning Commission is also involved in important community issues and considers goals and policies for directing and managing future development.


Duties of the members of the Planning and Zoning Commission include reviewing, evaluating and making recommendations to the Sedona City Council on Community Plan and Land Development Code amendments, rezonings and subdivision applications. The Planning and Zoning Commission also makes the final decision on conditional use permits and development review applications.


The Sedona City Council filled three vacant Housing Commission seats during the same February 8, 2011 meeting. Appointed by the Sedona City Council to the Sedona Housing Commission are Eugene Snyder, Anne Leap and Barbara “Blue” Boelter. 


The seven-member Sedona Housing Commission will make recommendations on housing-related matters to the Sedona City Council with its specific responsibilities to include developing criteria and goals for affordable housing, exploring public-private partnerships, developing specific incentive and regulatory-based strategies to increase, preserve and rehabilitate housing. The Sedona Housing Commission will also recommend financing options, listen to recommendations by the public and affordable housing beneficiaries, and give consideration to housing as part of a regional strategy.


Housing Commission meetings are generally held the first Monday of each month at 5 p.m. and are open to the public. For specific information about the Sedona Housing Commission, visit the City’s web site at  www.SedonaAZ.gov/housing.

The Planning and Zoning Commission plays a critical role in the City’s planning process as they serve as City Council’s advisor on land use planning topics. The Commission is also involved in important community issues and considers goals and policies for directing and managing future development. Duties include reviewing, evaluating and making recommendations to the Council on Community Plan and Land Development Code amendments, rezonings and subdivision applications. Additionally, the Commission makes the final decision on conditional use permits and development review applications.
