Sedona Community Campout Opportunity

Sedona AZ (May 8, 2012) – Back by popular demand, Sedona Parks and Recreation department is pleased to offer the community and visitors an opportunity to camp at beautiful Sunset Park. This summer event will be held June 1, 2012 – beginning at 5:00 p.m. and ending by 10:00 a.m. the following morning.

For $15 per tent, join others for a night of camping under the stars, telescope star viewing, and a morning children’s yoga class. This event is great for novice campers as well as seasoned campers who want to enjoy camping close to home.

Sunset Park is located at 655 Sunset Drive in Sedona.

The $15 registration fee includes tent set-up at 5 p.m. followed by a hot dog roast at 6 p.m. Children and adults will enjoy running around the park and relaxing outside in the fresh air. Frisbees, balls, and games will be provided and when the evening stars come out, J.D. Maddy, president of Astronomers of the Verde Valley, will offer telescopes for use. Join other campers around a bonfire and enjoy roasting s’mores provided by Parks and Recreation.

Wake early for a continental breakfast followed by a guided hike for adults and children over eight, or a group youth yoga class for children of all ages. Those interested in taking the 1¼ mile guided hike on Bandit Trail must carry water and have proper hiking shoes to join in. Park Rangers will point out the natural, geologic and cultural features along the trails and provide plenty of rest stops and opportunities to ask questions. Children will enjoy a short, guided hike on Lollipop Trail in the morning following their yoga class.

This may be your only chance to camp in a City park, so don’t miss out. The registration deadline is Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Contact the Sedona Parks and Recreation department at 928-282-7098 or at Sedona City Hall, 102 Roadrunner Drive, to register for this event.

Running a summer camp or a government? The City of Sedona clearly demonstrates their wacky priorites.
