Sedona Asks For Help to Protect Oak Creek

Sedona AZ-As part of the Storm Water Quality Management Program for the City of Sedona, many steps are taken to enhance the quality of storm water draining from its stormwater system into Oak Creek. The City encourages citizens and visitors to participate in efforts to keep Sedona’s storm water clean.  One of the areas you can help with is the proper disposal of pet waste.  Please keep the following in mind:

  • Pet waste left on the ground gets carried away by stormwater, contributing harmful bacteria, parasites and viruses to our unique Oak Creek waterway.
  •

Pet waste left on yards or driveways does not magically disappear or fertilize the ground.

Improperly disposed animal feces can be picked up by stormwater runoff and carried into storm drains or nearby washes eventually leading to Oak Creek.

Storm drains do not connect to sanitary sewer systems and treatment facilities, so pet waste can be the cause of significant stormwater pollution and present health risks to adults, children and other pets.

Use newspaper, bags or pooper-scoopers to pick up wastes.

Dispose of the wrapped pet waste in the trash or unwrapped in a toilet.

Please never discard pet waste in a storm drain, drainage wash, or channel.
