Schedule Your Flu Shot Now

Sedona AZ – The Yavapai County, Coconino County and Pinal County Public Health Departments are now accepting appointments for flu shots. In general, anyone who wants to reduce chances of getting the flu can get vaccinated. However, certain people should get vaccinated each year either because they are at a high risk of having serious flu-related complications or because they live with or care for high risk persons.

The Coconino Public Health Department advises that the following people have annual flu vaccinations:

1. People at high risk for complications from the flu, including:

  • Children aged 6 months through 18 years ,
  • Pregnant women,
  • People 50 years of age and older,
  • People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions, and
  • People who live in nursing homes and other long term care facilities.

2. People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:

  • Health care workers
  • Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu (see above)
  • Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated)

3. Anyone who wants to decrease their risk of  influenza.

The Coconino County Public Health Services District (CCPHSD) clinic schedules and appointments are available by calling the CCPHSD Flu Information Line at 928-679-7300 or toll-free 1-877-679-7272 during regular business hours. The cost for a flu shot at a CCPHSD Clinic is $25 for adults and $15 for children aged 18 and under. As a courtesy, its Health District will bill an insurance company so bring your insurance card after checking with your insurance provider to determine coverage.

No one will be denied a flu shot due to inability to pay. Appointments are required at all public health departments so call first.

In Yavapai County, the following toll-free phone numbers provide information and appointment scheduling for adult and child immunizations: If traveling, you may require immunizations and boosters. The same information resources below will address your travel requirement queries.

Black Canyon City (602) 495-8800
Cottonwood (928) 639-8100

The Yavapai County Community Health Services email address is web.health@co.yavapai.az.us.

In addition, the Pinal County Public Health Services District is now accepting appointments for adult flu shots. Call toll free 1-888-431-1311, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, to schedule flu shots. Children can receive a flu shot for FREE without an appointment at their local Pinal County Public Health clinic. Adult flu shots through the Pinal County Public Health Services District are just $15.

It is wise to consider that the cost of cold and flu medicines or trips to the doctor’s office and missed work make the price of flu shots a bargain. To schedule an appointment for your flu shot or for more information about the 2011-2012 influenza and vaccinations, call or contact your local public health department.

Your article should have said that In order to reduce the chance of catching the flu, the Public Health Department recommends frequent hand washing with soap for 30 seconds. If you do become ill, it is important to stay home to help prevent spreading illnesses to others. Sometimes the simplest of preventive measures are the most important in the containment of diseases. It is important for restaurant, school and public facility owners to educate employees, many from cultures where basic soap and water are not used or promoted for hygiene, heath and safety measures (for various socio-economic reasons). Americans are viewed internationally as being extremely fastidious and clean. A good thing to be and to be known as!

Used number for county and got a shot. Would probably not have done it without your encouragement. This old man (71 yesterday) appreciates your civic responsibility and easy to follow directions by including phone numbers. Forwarded by MSN mail to lots of friends and family. Fine work.
