Pinal County Recognizes National Preparedness Month

FLORENCE AZ – Trucking is big business here in Arizona and across the country. Huge eighteen-wheel trailers are continually rolling down our highways and byways delivering cargo from Maine to California. Have you ever wondered what exactly is in those trailer containers? Pinal County’s Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) can help you find out.

The Pinal County LEPC is one of 15 local emergency planning groups in ArizonaThe LEPC is a group of county employees and community volunteers who work together to identify potential risks that residents face from hazardous chemicals stored in or transported through Pinal County.

After months of planning and designing, the Pinal County LEPC has developed a helpful website that will provide support to facilities that store and use hazardous chemicals. The LEPC website also offers information to the public about the “Right to Know” regarding chemicals within its communities. By providing this information via the LEPC website, residents will be better prepared to understand, manage, and respond to potential hazards.

Everyone has the “Right to Know” about the potential risks of hazardous chemicals and how to be prepared to respond to emergencies in the home, at a place of business, and in the community. Residents are encouraged to visit Pinal County’s LEPC website for information on “how to be ready” if disaster strikes. The Pinal County Local Emergency Planning Committee website is www.goo.gl/NJ4Dz  and for additional information and resources, visit the Be Ready website www.ready.gov/index.html.

The launch of the LEPC website coincides with National Preparedness Month.

  1. David Cord says:

Fatal crash closes I-10: One person is dead and Interstate 10 is closed between Phoenix and Tucson because of a dust storm related multi-vehicle crash. The Department of Public Safety is saying that both commercial and passenger vehicles are involved but how many vehicles is yet unclear.

The dust storm reduced visibility to zero, a DPS spokesman said. Interstate 10 is closed in both directions.

Visit the ADOT web site or DPS for developing information.
