Rebecca Tobey at Exposures Gallery

Sedona AZ–Next week, nationally renowned artist Rebecca Tobey will reveal her newest collection of extraordinary bronze and ceramic sculptures during a two-day show at Sedona’s Exposures International Gallery of Fine Art.

Known for her sculptures of abstracted animal forms, Rebecca will appear at the Arizona gallery on Friday, October 8th from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday, October 9th from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

The shows will also feature the art of Rebecca’s family, including the accomplished sculptor Joshua Tobey and dynamic Impressionist painter Jami Tobey.

Among Rebecca’s new works at the show is the bronze Kokopelli, which depicts a soaring bird of prey balanced on the tips of its primary features. Another work, “Touch of Man” is a maquette of the 15-foot bear sculpture that Rebecca and her late husband, Gene, created for Baylor University’s Law School in Texas.

The show will also feature Rebecca’s first new ceramic sculptures at Exposures in a decade.

“Rebecca hasn’t shown new ceramics here in a long time, so this is a big deal,” said gallery owner Marty Herman. “One of Rebecca’s greatest talents is her use of color, and ceramics certainly lends itself to expressing that aspect of her artistic talents.”

Following years of collaboration with her husband, Rebecca continues to blaze a trail in her own right, creating timeless sculptures that appear at first glance as sleek silhouettes but upon closer viewing reveal a surface coated with intriguing glyphs and symbols.

The upcoming show represents a comeback of sorts for Rebecca, who only a year ago was diagnosed with colon cancer. After spending nearly six months in treatment, she is cancer-free and back at work.

“Sedona is such an important center for the arts and it’s always been a magical place for me,” Rebecca said. “I couldn’t think of a better place to showcase my new work.”

Rebecca currently shows in Tubac and Sedona Arizona; Palm Desert, California; Golden and Vail Colorado; Jackson Hole and Cody, Wyoming and her native city of Santa Fe where she works out of her home studio.
