EMS personnel ready accident victims for transport

Sedona AZ (October 14, 2013) – On October 13, 2013, just before 4:00 in the afternoon, YCSO deputies were called to the scene of an off road ATV accident at the Diamond Ranch turnoff on Arizona Forest Road 618, near the Beaver Creek Campground.

YCSO found two quad riders severely injured after a collision. Deputies determined that both quad riders were going south on FR 618 when the lead driver attempted a turn. Due to excessive dust created during the turn, the driver of the following quad was unable to see clearly and struck the first ATV that had overturned. Exact speed at the time of the collision is unknown and alcohol impairment may be a factor.

At the time of the call for help, witnesses indicated the driver of the first quad, a man from Phoenix, was unconscious but breathing. He was eventually airlifted to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment. His detailed injury information is not available at this time.

The second victim, from Mesa, received ground transportation to Flagstaff Medical Center with an apparent broken thumb and leg, along with head lacerations. Neither man was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
