Jamarl Cooper arrested for transporting marijuana

Jamarl Cooper arrested for transporting drugs and possessing a fire arm during a drug felony

Sedona AZ (October 14, 2013) – On October 3, 2013, at approximately 8:40 in the morning, a 25-year-old Louisiana man was arrested for charges including Transportation of Marijuana for Sale, Possession of Marijuana for Sale, and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony Drug Offense.

Around 8:30 AM, a YCSO K9 deputy observed a silver Ford Focus cut off a tractor-trailer during a lane change on eastbound Arizona I-40, east of Seligman, Arizona. The deputy gave pursuit and pulled over the only occupant in the car and its driver, Jamarl Cooper.

During a conversation about the violation, the deputy could smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Cooper denied that there were any drugs or weapons in the vehicle and declined the deputy’s request for a consent search.

When the deputy deployed his K9 partner for an exterior sniff of the vehicle, the K9 alerted to the driver’s side. A search eventually led to the trunk where the deputy opened a duffle bag containing 10 plastic bags of marijuana, each weighing one pound. Another duffle bag in the trunk was found to contain a .45 caliber handgun and a bundle of currency totaling over $2000. After the find, Cooper acknowledged his role in transporting the marijuana for drug sales.

Cooper was transported to the Camp Verde Detention Center and remains in-custody on a $35,000 bond.

Citizens can contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions at 928-771-3260 or the YCSO
