Sedona, AZ – Editorial By Tommy Acosta …

What sorrow. What an unbelievable tragedy was the killing of a man’s family and his suicide just because he and his wife lost their jobs

Can one imagine the state of mind the father was in to take a gun and assassinate his children his wife and take his own life? How deep was the hopelessness? How dark was the fear in his heart? One can understand, perhaps, when in deep despair or pain, taking one’s own life. But to wipe out his own family?

There is a darkness spreading across the nation. Thousands, perhaps millions of Americans are at the breaking point, financial resources depleted, hunger and homelessness facing them and their families.

There is a disconnect happening between reality and perception. This is a comfortable generation about to have the rug of what they were accustomed to pulled out from under them.

We are going to see more of these murder-suicides, as things get worse. There were ten such killings last year.

These poor children, innocent, unaware of the chaos gripping the lives of their parents, not anticipating the death coming –who can save them?

Yet, the trillions that can keep the desperate and starving afloat are spent on war and bailouts.

And in Sedona, not a peep from city government on mobilizing efforts and raising funds to help the hungry here in our town.

Quail Resort just shut down. Hotels and time-share establishments are laying off people left and right.  Those on fixed incomes are making decisions between food and medication. Musicians and artists are struggling. Galleries are struggling. Restaurants are in trouble.

Yet, the city can blow 450 grand towards a study to redevelop 89A when no one knows if the funds will ever be there to do so.  Just think how far $10,000 would go to feeding the hungry through the winter.

Nationally, locally, we are not talking about doom and gloom here. We are talking about life and death, whether people eat or not, or in despair, end it all.

Pray, pray for the children, the helpless and the weak. The times, they are-a-changing.
