Prescott Attorney Suspended After Felony Conviction

State Bar of Arizona logoSedona AZ (July 3, 2013)  – The Presiding Disciplinary Judge of the Arizona Supreme Court has ordered that attorney John R. Thornton of Prescott, Arizona, be suspended from the practice of law for two years.

On March 11, 2013, the judge accepted an agreement for discipline by consent between John R. Thornton and the State Bar of Arizona and ordered he be suspended for two years, retroactive to November 19, 2012.

Thornton was arrested on felony charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and disorderly conduct on November 13, 2011. He plead guilty to one count of aggravated assault, a class 4 felony, which lead to the suspension.

In addition to the suspension, John R. Thornton was ordered to pay $1,200 to the State Bar of Arizona for costs and expenses incurred during its investigation. If reinstated, he will be placed on probation for two years and will be required to participate in the Bar’s Member Assistance Program (MAP).
