Sedona AZ (December 19, 2012) – If you are like millions of animal owners nationwide, your pet is an important member of your household. Unfortunately, animals are also affected by disaster. Here’s a big thanks to FEMA for reminding me how important it is for my readers to pre-plan for their beloved pals emergencies. Get crackin’ and make a plan now.

The likelihood that you and your animals will survive an emergency such as a fire or flood, tornado or terrorist attack depends largely on emergency planning done today. Some of the things you can do to prepare for the unexpected, such as assembling an animal emergency supply kit and developing a pet care buddy system, are the same for any emergency.Whether you decide to stay put in an emergency or evacuate to a safer location, you will need to make plans in advance for your pets. Keep in mind that what’s best for you is typically what’s best for your animals.

If you evacuate your home, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PETS BEHIND! Pets most likely cannot survive on their own and if by some remote chance they do, you may not be able to find them when you return.

Paws Up! in 2013

If you are going to a public shelter, it is important to understand that animals may not be allowed inside. Plan in advance for shelter alternatives that will work for both you and your pets; consider loved ones or friends outside of your immediate area who would be willing to host you and your pets in an emergency. Make a back-up emergency plan in case you can’t care for your animals yourself. Develop a buddy system with neighbors, friends and relatives to make sure that someone is available to care for or evacuate your pets if you are unable to do so. Be prepared to improvise and use what you have on hand to make it on your own for at least three days, maybe longer.

Use this Pet Owners Brochure and the Pet Instructional Video to help you create an emergency plan and kit for your pet. You can also contact the local humane societies and animal shelters. Tell them “Harley McGuire and Pals Sent Ya!”

Here’s a Happy and Healthy New Year 2013 Shout Out for all my buddies and friends. Here’s a Paws Up to you all!

  1. Mommy found out yesterday that our beloved “B” at the Sedona Humane Society is no longer with us. She had an unexpected fatal heart attack. We are very, very sad because she had been running our local humane society for so many years and saw it through the completion of the new facility and other major improvements for my four footed lost and homeless friends. We are sad and grieving.

    Lovingly,
    Harley McGuire

  2. We are working on a tribute press release for B and the community memorial is scheduled for Jan 12. More details to come on the memorial as we plan it…
    Best regards,

Merry Christmas and Happy 2013 to you Harley McGuire!

  4. Thank you, Charlie Bert, for your kind wishes. It’s a pleasure to respond by sending my best wishes to you, too, for a Merry Christmas and and Happy New Year of 2013.

Lovingly with a wagging tail and crooked smile,

    Harley McGuire

  5. Warren says:

Good advice, Harley. Likewise, “Christians” waiting for “The Rapture” need to make similar arrangements.

  6. Chip'n Dale says:

Thank you Harley – good advise. Happy Holidays and good planning for 2013.

    Hugs and Hisses C’n D

  7. Hey there Warren and Chip’n Dale. Do you maybe wonder if those people at Bell Rock thinking the world would end a few days ago made arrangements for those they intended to leave behind? Oops!

Switching channels to another subject, Sandy Claws finally made those Thundershirt people get it right. Third time was the charm. Yep, my new “fright” shirt clearly states: “Harley McGuire.” And, my new soft red suede studded collar and sort-of matching leash will arm me to scare away any sceerie noises.

Ah ~ indeed life is good and I’m prepared for whatever challenges are on the horizon in the New Year. (I think)

    Lovingly,
    Harley McGuire

  8. Found in Bridgeport 12/07/12 call Golden Bone Rescue at 634-6477

This dog is obviously very loved. Please, help her find her family! She has a blue collar but no tags. She might be a German Shepherd/Shar Pei mix.

She was found in Bridgeport by the people at the feed store on Dec 6th or 7th. She weighs about 75 lbs. Please cross-post, and let’s get this baby home! Find a picture of her on our Facebook page @ https://www.facebook.com/pages/Golden-Bone-Rescue-Rehab/353006384723536
