Medical Emergency Uncovers Underage Party

Facebook Invitation Prom Party Aftermath

Sedona AZ (April 16, 2012) – On April 15, 2012, at approximately 3:45 AM, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to an area six miles out from Highway 69 on Iron King Road, south of Dewey, Arizona. Initial reports indicated some type of medical emergency involving a male who was found lying unresponsive on the roadway.

Callers also reported several fights in the vicinity.

As deputies began arriving, they found a very large “after prom” party involving numerous high school aged students. Deputies discovered many of the participants had been consuming alcoholic beverages and were attempting to drive out.

Some of the attendees parked their vehicles and fled into the desert as deputies began arriving. Two cars were towed as a result. Deputies estimated well over one hundred and fifty people were in attendance.

The male victim was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital in an extremely intoxicated state and eventually released.

Deputies, with assistance from the Prescott Valley Police Department and Department of Public Safety remained on scene throughout the early morning hours to investigate the incident. A total of sixty five participants, all under the age of 21 and some as young as 15, were detained.

Deputies wrote 34 citations mainly addressing underage consumption violations. In order to ensure the safety of those involved, no one under the age of 18 was allowed to leave until a responsible adult had been notified to provide transportation. Any potential driver who had been drinking remained on site pending a ride from a designated sober driver. Further citations involving littering and property damage are likely.

Deputies learned the party had been planned far in advance and involved students from most area high schools. Invitations were broadcast via Facebook and “coded” as “Project X” a reference to a movie released last month portraying a high school party out of control.
