Majority of Business Owners Intimidated by SFD Recall?

Sedona AZ (September 30, 2011) – The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor:

The SFD Board Recall is presenting challenges past Recalls haven’t had to face due to the temperament of those being recalled, and their supporters. We are finding an alarming number of people who truly hope the recall will be successful, however are afraid to sign petitions due to threats and intimidation.

In past recalls, businesses with great locations for obtaining signatures have allowed petition volunteers in their parking lots. Today’s response: “This recall is too controversial, I need to remain neutral.” A majority of business owners say they, too, want us to be successful but are fearful of signing petitions due to possible threats of intimidation or loss of business.

We need 1,706 signatures for each of the three being recalled. My hope is that people in this community who are quietly sitting back, crossing their fingers, and praying for a successful recall will have the courage to step forward and sign petitions, or better yet, circulate petitions in their neighborhood.

After all, this is a safety issue for you and your property.

Our West Sedona office will be open through September. The village office will remain open Monday through Saturday, 10AM to 4PM until petitions are delivered to Prescott October 28th.

We are determined and courageous volunteers, with varying political views who stood outside station #1 a few months back, after attending a SFD Board Meeting, stunned in disbelief…many of us strangers to one another…and we asked “what are we going to do?”

My question to those of you who have told us you hope and pray this recall is successful, but are not willing to take action yourself to insure our success….are you really going to allow weeks to go by…time to run out….fear, intimidation and apathy to stand in your way?

You can rest assured that your own businesses will be negatively impacted when the ISO rating jumps up and your insurance rates are raised. You can’t just hope and pray that this recall is successful and let just the rest of us be actively involved. It is high time for you to do your due-diligence and find out what the majority of the SFD board is REALLY trying to do. I am all for saving money and doing things in a cost-effective way…but not at the expense of people’s lives.

IT’S TIME FOR YOU TO STAND UP TO INTIMIDATION AND DO WHAT’S RIGHT!!
