Through our efforts, it now appears that the taxpayer funded Adopt-A-Highway program between Cottonwood and Sedona has taken on a new life. Most of the Permittee’s between Cottonwood and Sedona realize the value of working together. Raffle prizes have been donated by many of the local businesses to reward our efforts.
In 2010, Scenic Highway 89A from Cottonwood to Jerome and Highway 260 from Cottonwood to Camp Verde was included in our community effort. In 2010 we will work with the Arizona ADOT Adopt-A-Highway program managers to recommend improvements to the Arizona Adopt-A-Highway program policies and procedures. These recommendations will result in savings to the taxpayers due to increased efficiencies in procedures plus the procurement of litter bags and unnecessary promotional items.
The Arizona Highway Maintenance Department and Highway Engineer in our area have been supportive of our “out-of the-box” approach to push back against those who illegally litter the highways. In Folksville, USA, we appreciate the efforts of the men and women who maintain our highway system, “They’re the boots on the ground 24/7” and truly earn their keep.
It only seems appropriate to thank those “Original Folks” who donated several thousand hours of their time in 2009 and 2010 to restore the beauty to their communities and America. As a group, we have received media attention locally and nationally for our efforts.
The “Original” Road Warriors, Culture Warriors & CSI participants who made our progress possible are Patricia (Pat) McQuade, Beth Cady, Diane Gallager, Valerie (Val) Moore, Rick Baldauf, Greg Penrod and Gary Chamberlain.
Our original recycling group is from Cornville’s Lower Oak Creek Estates, aka “Skunk Hollow” and are Rick Baldauf, Eloise Baldauf, Gary Chamberlain, Richard Shay, Connie Morgan, Jim Jean and team leader Carole Lamb-Jean along with original recycler Ed Helgeson of Cornville. All have participated in many litter recovery efforts.
