Gary:

Thank you for keeping me in the loop as to how your Adopt-A-Highway program is working in Arizona. The work that goes on behind the scenes is monumental and takes a person with a vision and drive that will not seize.

Picking up someone else’s trash is probably not on a list of the top 20 jobs people are looking for after graduation from high school or college. Probably because it does not pay and it is not a job that one aspires for.

Motivation relies on a person’s personal commitment in taking responsibility for their community’s environment and the theme of restore the beauty to “America the Beautiful” is a great theme and goal.

Volunteer groups are asked to clean at least 3-4 times per year, this raises the bar on some of the programs within the country, but with the right recognition the percent of groups cleaning up and the pounds of trash removed from the highways will definitely make a positive impact in the community and state.

I want to thank the groups for their efforts, I know that our groups in New Mexico do a great job, and what an impact could be made if we had more miles adopted and more groups involved.

My congratulations to Gary and all of the volunteers who assist in picking up “someone else’s trash” and getting the word out to the general public. Good volunteers are hard to find and we all can make a difference if we help each other out.

Sincerely,

Joseph R. Lobato
