Sedona AZ (November 12, 2012)The City of Sedona submitted this column written by its staff:

The cool and colorful days of the fall are upon us, and now is the perfect season to spend time in one of your spectacular City parks. Take a leisurely stroll, peruse a museum, get competitive with a friendly game of tennis, or participate in a recreation program or special event. Whatever your desires may be, we have options for you to enjoy.

Did you know that both Posse Grounds Park and Sunset Park each have two tennis courts ready and waiting for some action? Courts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, open dawn to dusk. Maybe organized sports don’t suit your pleasure. Instead, enjoy a walk in the brisk morning air on one of the trails throughout the park. Posse Grounds Park has several dirt trails for your use, with a detailed map available online, as well as map signage posted throughout the park.

Don’t forget to include your pup in all of the fall fun. November is a great opportunity to experience the ever energetic sport of Flyball, or maybe it’s just time to brush up on manners in preparation for the holidays. With discounted prices and a great instructor, now is the time to try out dog training classes and seminars.

Perhaps you’d like to start the holidays off right by getting into shape? An ongoing outdoor/indoor Recreation Fitness class is presented to you by the Parks and Recreation Department. This unique fitness class offers participants the chance to add variety to their normal workout routine. Join others in the park while being guided through exercises designed to improved flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, strength and balance. Have no fear, water aerobics is still here! Water Aerobics will also be continuing throughout the fall and winter seasons. This program has moved indoors to the pool located at the Villas of Sedona, 120 Kaloff Place in Sedona. This high energy, low impact class is great for people of varying athletic levels.

Finish off the season right with Parks and Recreation and join us for Breakfast with Santa and the Jingle Bell Run. Start off the morning of Saturday, December 1 at 7:45 a.m. with a one mile fun run/walk through Posse Grounds Park led by the Sedona Running Company. Join us afterwards for a free pancake breakfast provided by the YMCA Adventures. After you’ve had your fill of pancakes, enjoy the crafts, face painting and best of all Santa, brought to you by the Parks and Recreation Department.

The place to watch for details on these classes, seminars, events and more is www.SedonaAZ.gov/parks and www.SedonaEye.com Calendar of Events. The Sedona Parks and Recreation 2013 calendar is coming soon and it is sure to be full of great activities for people of all ages.
