Eye on Beautiful Sedona

Sedona AZ (August 9, 2011)–Warm weather invites everyone to head outdoors so the City of Sedona Parks and Recreation Department has planned great events for all ages to enjoy this fall.

The fourth and final offering of the popular Sedona Kid’s Photo Hunt and Hike, is a free event for children with parents/guardians to enjoy an educational hike together on August 13, 2011. Guided by the City of Sedona Volunteer Park Rangers, participants will walk through Jordan Historical Park  to learn about plants, animals, the environment and Sedona history. Children will be encouraged to take photographs of that which intrigues them, and then print pictures at home to create photo journals. The Sedona Parks and Recreation Department will provide the journals and children will use their own cameras. The morning of the event, families should arrive and be ready to hike at 8:30 a.m. at the Jordan Park lower parking lot in uptown Sedona

As the evenings cool, a great place to be is outdoors under the stars. Let the Parks and Recreation department help you do that. Due to popular demand, the Community Campout (usually offered only in the spring) is having a trial run this autumn. Join with others on September 23-24, 2011 for the campout at Sunset Park, Sunset Drive in Sedona. A registration fee of $15 per tent allows; set up on the grass field at Sunset Park at 5:00 p.m.; a hot dog roast at 6:00 p.m.;  children’s crafts at 6:30 p.m.;  s’mores roasting in the evening and stargazing with telescopes provided by the Astronomers of the Verde Valley. Camp sites are close to the children’s playground allowing adults to relax by the campfire. The following morning, Parks and Recreation will offer a continental breakfast, hot coffee and group yoga classes followed by an escorted children’s walk on the Lollipop trail. Contact the City of Sedona Parks and Recreation early. Space is limited for this event.

October will be fun with the return of a classic Sedona event and the launch of a brand new event. Check out the SedonaEye.com web site’s Calendar of Events daily as the City of Sedona Parks and Recreation events are listed with details. Don’t miss October’s Pumpkin Splash or Red Mud Run
