Dear Editor: Kachina Village Wetlands Development

Greetings,
My name is Gretchen Lopez. Both my husband and myself have lived here in Kachina Village for over 24 years.  I have been teaching art at the Sedona
Arts Center for over 11 years. I need to get in touch with the folks who are a part of the “Friends of the Verde River” in order to bring their attention to a proposed housing development, which would entail 132 units or “Affordable Housing”.

The development of this urban sprawl will have a major impact on the Riparian area and the underground Springs in the area.  Important waterways
along with  the Verde River and Oak Creek, will be impacted by waste materials from building, and there is no sustainable water here for 132 houses.  There
are plans to build a service road right through important forest areas as well.

I attended a zoning meeting where the board seemed oblivious to this impact.  As a private citizen and tax payer, it is stunning to find out that the Contractors, all from Mesa, are pushing the county and the board for this.  Upon my questioning one of the attendees, who is an expert in the biology and ecology of the area, she explained that the human Footprint will impact the area and the watersheds.

Please, have some one contact me and so that I can make my voice heard.  We must work to protect our ecology.  I am writing a letter to the Daily Sun as well.
Many thanks,
Gretchen Lopez
