Coconino County Jail Receives Baptistery Donation

Coconino County Patrol MapSedona AZ (February 4, 2016) – The American Rehabilitation Ministry, a Missouri based non-profit organization, donated a new full immersion portable baptistery valued at $1,700 to the Coconino County Detention Facility, Flagstaff, AZ.

The Coconino County jail staff will schedule the use of the baptistery on a regular and frequent basis to inmates. Inmates requesting a baptism will meet with the full time Jail Chaplain, who will then explain the process and its significance, and once the inmate has a full understanding, he or she will be scheduled for their requested baptism.

In the past, the Jail Chaplain and other religious volunteers received requests from inmates to be baptized, but the facility did not have the capability. The Chaplain contacted other detention facilities to learn what policies each had in place regarding baptisms and learned that many agencies offer baptisms on a regular basis, including full immersion baptisteries.

The Rescued Not Arrested non-profit group assisted the Chaplain in identifying and contacting the American Rehabilitation Ministry as a resource. The Rescued Not Arrested organization also provides religious volunteers to minister to inmates in the Coconino County facility on a weekly basis.

The Coconino County Detention facility strives to provide its inmate population with opportunities to improve their quality of life within the facility and after release. The baptistery is yet another way the County Detention facility works to provide such an opportunity.
