Camp Verde Relay for Life Scheduled

Dear Sedona Times and SedonaEye.com readers,

Camp Verde Arizona scheduled a community Relay for Life evenat the town Ramada and Community Park on Hollomon Street behind Camp Verde Town Hall. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a life-changing event that gives communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. The event begins at 6 PM on September 10, 2010 and ends the morning of September 11, 2010. All are welcome.

At Relay events, teams camp at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event to symbolize that cancer never sleeps. Relays are fun neighborhood overnight events suitable for all well-behaved ages.

Each year more than 3.5 million people in 5,000 communities in the United States, along with additional communities in 20 other countries, gather to take part in this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer.

All cancer survivors are invited to attend the Relay for Life because survivors are the primary reason for Relays. A survivor is anyone who has ever heard the words “You have cancer.” Survivors are guests of honor at all Relay for Life events. Survivors are offered special T-shirts and or sashes, and many Relay events hold a special reception for survivors and caregivers.

Most Relays open with a Survivors Lap where survivors lead the way while the public and fellow participants honor and applaud them. Being a part of the Survivors Lap allows survivors to celebrate what they have overcome while inspiring and motivating their community to fight. Survivors are proof that cancer can be defeated.
