Big Park Regional Coordinating Council Votes No Smart Meters

Sedona Arizona's Village of Oak Creek

Sedona Arizona’s Village of Oak Creek votes unanimous no on smart meter safety and fiscal prudence

Sedona AZ (October 15, 2013) – The Village of Oak Creek joins the City of Sedona and the City of Bisbee in expressing concerns to the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) about allowing Arizona utilities smart meter installation program. A standing room only crowd filled the October 10, 2013, Big Park Regional Coordinating Council meeting room in the VOC to discuss and vote on a Smart Meter resolution.

Incorporated in 1996 to promote the best interests of the residents of the Big Park Community, BPRCC has 28 voting members representing the Village of Oak Creek residents, property owners and businesses within the boundaries outlined by the Big Park Community Plan. The Council studies community issues and seeks their solutions. In doing so, it represents the interests of the Big Park community to County, State and Federal bodies and agencies, persons, firms or organizations that affect the community.

The October 2013 BPRCC resolution requests a no-fee, community-wide right of “smart” refusal until such time that truly independent testing and auditing has proven that “smart” meters are both safe and fiscally prudent for ratepayers. The resolution passed unanimously and will be sent to the Arizona Corporation Commission. The Arizona Corporation Commission is mandated to provide utility oversight on behalf of Arizona ratepayers.

smart metersIn passing the Smart Meter resolution, it is important for Village of Oak Creek residents to understand the resolution is Big Park Council’s recommendation to the ACC, however, it is the responsibility of individual residents to notify APS that a Smart Meter installation is not allowed on their properties or premises. Any APS account holder, whether renter or homeowner, can refuse a Smart Meter without penalty of added fees. There are no added fees for opting out as ACC has not approved any at this time.

Detailed information about how to refuse “smart” meters can be found at SedonaSmartMeterAwareness.com/WHAT-CAN-I-DO-.html and, for more Smart Meter information and background, use search words Smart Meters on this website.

  5. Belgium BANS Mobile Phones For Children – On the same day that we read reports from the Lancet that the UK is “lagging behind similar countries on many indicators for ill-health” (and continues to lag in the diagnosis and survival of cancer), the Belgian government has announced measures to restrict the use of mobile phones by young children.

Public Health Minister Laurette Onkelinx has announced that sales of mobile phones to children under 7 years will be banned in shops and also on the internet.

Adverts for mobile phones during children’s programmes on TV radio and the internet will also be banned.

Research shows that in Belgium every two out of three children under 10 years have a mobile phone. At 12 years they nearly all have one.

The minister has highlighted the radiation risk from cell phones which is higher for young children than adults.

  8. We need your “oppose” vote. There is a newly worded poll.

The results of this poll will impact the Clarkdale Council’s decision regarding “smart” meter installations on its November 12th agenda for action.

“Should Verde Valley city and town councils support or oppose installation of APS “Smart Meters”?

City and town councils should oppose APS’ installation of “smart” meters.

  9. Nice to see the support for smart meter opposition between news organizations. I went and voted but it doesn’t give results. A good turn out at all city halls for meetings will be the best messenger to APS.

Intelligently, this Oregon Municipal Utility Board Board has interpreted “The Energy Policy Act of 2005” correctly because it states in Section 1252 that utilities should “offer” automated metering (aka “smart” meters) to those ratepayers requesting them. Click on this link:
