Arizona I-17 Bridge Work Closes Highway

Phoenix AZ (April 13, 2012) – Late night closures and restrictions will be in place on Arizona Interstate 17 at Cordes Junction for the week of April 15 through April 20, 2012 as crews perform bridge work and construct a new detour, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation:

● Sunday night, April 15, 2012 between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. northbound Arizona I-17 will be closed intermittently for up to thirty minutes. In addition, northbound Arizona I-17 will be narrowed to one lane overnight from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

● Monday night, April 16, 2012 between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. southbound Arizona I-17 will be closed intermittently for up to thirty minutes.

● Monday night, April 16, 2012 through the morning of April 20, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. southbound Arizona I-17 will be narrowed to one lane overnight.

Drivers are encouraged to adjust travel schedules in order to avoid the closures or allow extra travel time.

The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct the Arizona Interstate 17 and State Route 69 traffic interchange.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
