ADOT June Highway Construction Update

ADOT photoSedona AZ (June 14, 2013) – The following Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) highway project updates are as follows:

SHOW LOW – A project to repave several sections of State Route 260 between Pintop and Hon Dah will start Sunday, June 16. Milling and paving operations will start 10 p.m. Sunday, June 16, and will continue 24 hours a day until Wednesday morning, June 19. Once paving is completed, crews will start applying a slurry seal to the entire roadway. The entire project will be completed by mid-July with pavement striping.

PRESCOTT – Final pavement striping work scheduled on State Route 89A Spur (Fain Road) next week and will be narrowed to one lane in each direction through the project area starting Monday, June 17. Work is expected to take up to two weeks to complete. The widening project on State Route 89A Spur (Fain Road) will receive its final construction work in the form of pavement striping and the installation of recessed pavement markers, two tasks that are expected to take two weeks to complete. Work will occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Friday, June 28.

ARIZONA INTERSTATE 17 – Motorists traveling on Interstate 17 south of Camp Verde between midnight and 3 a.m. during the next three weeks need to plan ahead and allow extra travel time due to overnight construction on a climbing lane project. Overnight work will require a pair of one-hour closures in both directions on I-17 as crews continue blasting rock cuts along the highway.

Overnight closures will occur in the early morning hours June 13 and then intermittently for the next three weeks on Monday through Thursday. The first closure will be from midnight to 1 a.m. and the second closure between 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. Traffic on northbound I-17 will be stopped at State Route 169 and southbound I-17 traffic will be stopped at General Crook Trail until the area is reopened. In addition to the full closures, drivers can expect single-lane restrictions in both directions through the work zone between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday night through Friday morning. Drivers on northbound I-17 should be alerted to a pilot car in the work zone to safely guide traffic between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. nightly.

Also, a site in the median of I-17 south of State Route 169 has been designated to use for excess materials removed from the project, which will require I-17 to be narrowed overnight to one lane in each direction at mileposts 276-277 as crews enter and exit the highway between 8 p.m. and noon Monday through Friday.

HOLBROOK – A project to repave 13 miles of State Route 264 west of Burnside Junction will begin Monday, June 24. The $5 million project, which is scheduled for completion by the end of August, includes these improvements: Placing new pavement over the existing roadway; Removing and replacing cattle guards; Replacing guardrail; Paving turnouts and building up shoulders and applying new pavement markings. Work hours will be from sunrise to sunset Monday through Saturday. Flaggers and pilot cars will guide vehicles through the work zone in alternating directions and drivers should anticipate delays of up to 30 minutes.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through all work zones with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. Be prepared for delays! Carry plenty of potable water during summer travels at all times. If you are accompanied by a pet, pack a leash and never leave your pet in the vehicle – Arizona summer heat kills very quickly.
