West Valley Hispanic Students Awarded Scholarships

education dollarsSedona AZ (May 30, 2014) – The Hispanic Leadership Forum del Oeste recently awarded $39,500 in scholarships to 22 college-bound and current college students. The students represented the state of Arizona West Valley cities of Tolleson, Avondale, Goodyear, and Buckeye. Community involvement and scholastic GPA were principal selection criteria for each scholarship, which ranged from $2,000, $1,500 and $500. Tolleson Police Chief Larry Rodriguez, HLF President, congratulated each recipient via letter, which included a scholarship check to their respective school.

The Hispanic Leadership Forum del Oeste is a non-profit organization comprised of West Valley community leaders from Tolleson, Avondale, and Litchfield Park dedicated toward promoting higher education among minority youth and encouraging involvement in their respective communities. As a non-profit organization, the principal fund raising efforts of HLF include a Scholarship Golf Tournament held in April and a “Baile de Exito” (Dance for Success) held each September at the Wigwam Resort. Through these tireless efforts, and the generous contributions of corporate and individual sponsors, the Hispanic Leadership Forum del Oeste has awarded over $500,000.00 in scholarships over the span of 16 years.
