VOCA Seeks Three Board of Directors Candidates

Sedona Arizona’s Village of Oakcreek Association represents over 2300 homeowners

Sedona AZ (January 2, 2015)The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor:

Three candidates are needed to run for election to the Village of Oakcreek Association (VOCA) Board of Directors in April 2015. Now is the time to begin the search for candidates.

The prior VOCA president resigned in November 2013. VOCA lost several employees to resignation since the current board took over. The most recent resignation was on October 10, 2104, when a board member resigned over ethical issues.

In our opinion, evidence shows the board has violated Arizona state statues and VOCA bylaws that are in place to protect homeowners’ rights, operated with dictatorial control, ignored members’ requests to participate in decision-making, and used intimidation to quash opposition.

The board has placed themselves on every VOCA committee and also acts on committees outside VOCA. They have created policies to impede member rights and, disregarding a member petition on October 9, voted to hand over the daily HOA operations to a management company based in Prescott. Members’ assessment dollars are leaving the community. They are creating policies and diluting the rights of the homeowners. Two directors hold double power acting as the general manager and golf manager in addition to board positions.

The board has formed a nominating committee to recruit candidates. It is likely they will seek out candidates with similar strategies.

It is important that our membership rallies and recruits our own candidates who will recapture our rights. It is important that our membership rallies and recruits our own candidates who respect bylaws and will respect the homeowners’ needs in our community.

Please contact us for more information about becoming a candidate and/or getting involved at MemberAlliance@use.startmail.com or PO Box 20453, Sedona AZ 86341.

Please forward this to all VOCA friends and neighbors who might also want to promote a fair, reasonable and respectful culture in our community. The world has many problems, but we can make a difference in our own community.

Thank you,

MemberAlliance

  1. Community is coming together in all directions.

Newly formed Fairway Oaks Neighbors Alliance-Strength in Community- will be talking to our neighbors about the sewer line into our subdivision with no formal approach to residents first. We will canvas for board members as well.

Keep us informed and thank you.

  2. Appreciates this notice!

  3. Helene James says:

As a reminder of Big parks wastewater meeting minutes about a year ago, any home within a hundred feet of the sewer line is required to hook up. the cost was something like $10,000 for single family home and Seventeen thousand for a duplex.. I hope the homeowners are given a chance to vote on this.

  4. Anyone living in a VOCA subdivision needs to read your subdivision CCR’s to prevent or use BREACH OF CONTRACT to your advantage.

RUN for the BOARD, GOOD PEOPLE!!!!
    Happy New Year!!

  5. @ HELEN You might want to review the powerpoint presentation from last October at the Shelley/Goode “neighborhood meeting” that was attended by some BPDWID board, Improvement District Services, Inc. and Sunrise engineers. The cost are much higher than 10,000.
14,000, to the driveway and TBD(approx 5,000) on the extension to the tank through your yard. Plus Landscaping. Remember ,they also included a flyer for someone to come do your yard excavation from Rimrock.
I have copies if you need them.

One of the properties that was referred to as an example had a new septic installed is still sitting UNLANDSCAPED on the golf course over one year later.

    Must know someone….

The nominating committee has set February 13 as the deadline for applications for board candidates. Please consider applying. Let me know if you want assistance. The Member Alliance will meet on January 18. Contact me for information. I will also be available after the special board meeting on January 13 to speak with members of the community who want improve the culture in our community. A good culture is needed to maintain property values. MemberAlliance@use.startmail.com

  7. Barb says:

WE NEED everyone and anyone who has the slightest interest in helping VOCA return to a fair and reasonable community to APPLY to be a board candidate. You can find the application form in the VOCA January newsletter or get one at the office. You are only REQUIRED to be a VOCA homeowner in good standing. That means you are current on your assessments. You don’t have to provide ALL the information on the application. You can’t be FORCED to sign any contracts. But APPLY NOW. Once the list of candidates is revealed, if you want to withdraw, you can. But we won’t end up with THREE fair and reasonable candidates unless we get applications. DUE 2-13-15.

  8. What’s happening now?

  9. If any of the present board runs for reelection and win, there will be a recall of those board members if they win. Once the election is over, the remainder of the present board will also be recalled.

Attend meetings. Hoamco has volunteers coming in now and they realize a need for more employees that the board refused our association. Looks like the board fooled Hoamco as well as us. Money is being spent that you are going to have to pay.

  10. Barb says:

Jennifer: Update: Hoamco sent an HOA manager to VOCA. She seems honest and I will trust her until she gives me a reason not to trust her. The board is the same old, same old. Obviously they are meeting before the board meetings to decide what they will do at the board meetings. The board candidate applications are due February 13. That is when we will see who is running and if any reputable VOCA members stepped up to create the needed changes that include honesty, reason and fairness.

  11. Are you looking for volunteers for the recall? Let us know the deets, we are ready to help.
    VOCA friends
