Verde Villages Litter Clean Up Thank You

Folksville USA volunteers on the job

Sedona AZ (November 18, 2013)The following is a letter to the SedonaEye.com editor about the November 16, 2013, Folksville USA and Verde Villages anti litter clean up event:

I would like to thank all of the volunteers who came out to assist in the Saturday morning highway 260 cleanup on the Verde Villages 2 mile section. Of some note is the group from the Tao fellowship who have assisted in the last two cleanups with a group of almost a dozen, even though they do not live in the Villages. There were two folks, in the Verde Villages, who cleaned up areas on Friday and Sunday, by themselves. I personally appreciate the efforts of all of the volunteers. I realize that I call the same people for every cleanup.

It would be nice to have more people come forward to assist in the future.

  4. The Verde Villages Litter Crew,

I have known Mal and many of his folks for over 5 years and they are one of the most dedicated group of trash removers I know!

They also clean up one of the filthiest 2-mile sections of highway in the Verde Valley leading into Cottonwood …… a thankless task.

One of Mal’s regular crew members is Roy Buck, a WWII veteran.

Mal is a Vietnam era veteran.

Toa Fellowship, they have been a regular and life-saving group that shows up rain or shine to help out and they make the Verde Valley appealing to all of those that travel our roads and highways.

Our entire Verde Valley Adopt-A-Highway groups and Folksville USA effort consists of people that are of different religious, political and ethnic backgrounds but we are able to work together ….. go figure!

Maybe our elected politicians and community leaders could come work with these folks and learn a lesson about putting their difference aside four times per year, get to know each other and help clean our highways.

Leaders lead from the front and by example …… Mal is a leader!

  6. Dear Marissa Okov,

I hope you would support your statement with the facts that drew you to your conclusion ….. I would like to see them.

I also hope that you will read some of the SedonaEye.com stories posted about the Folksville USA effort.

You will see stories and television interview posted that indicate that ADOT, the very agency responsible for beautification of Arizona’s highway through proper management of the volunteer support Adopt-A-Highway program has failed miserably!

ADOT dumbed down “its” Adopt-A-Highway volunteer requirements for the volunteers in 2012 and so now it is just a “Free” advertising program funded by the taxpayers.

The Adopt-A-Highway program will never be effective ….. NEVER under the current management.

There are references and photographs showing that ADOT and ADOT subcontractors have trashed our veteran’s highways ….. please check it out.

I look forward to your comments and thanks.
