ycso portland couple carSedona AZ (June 11, 2015) – On June 9, 2015, a Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office K9 deputy stopped a silver Volkswagen Jetta for running the stop sign in front of the Depot 89 gas station, adjacent to Highway 89 in Paulden, Arizona. A records check revealed the vehicle was reported stolen out of Oregon.

The driver, Johnnie Applegate, 32, from Portland, Oregon, and his passenger, Danielle Detmer, 26, also from Portland, were both arrested. Detmer admitted to borrowing the vehicle from a friend in Oregon to go to the store approximately two weeks ago and never returning the Volkswagen. During a search of the vehicle, marijuana was located along with prescription drugs that were not designated for either party. Deputies also found heroin related paraphernalia.

Based on the examination of these items and other property located, YCSO believe the suspects were modifying credit cards by re-embossing apparently valid numbers on the card face to make purchases. Although early in the investigation, deputies have evidence indicating the suspects used the fraudulent cards in Arizona over recent days.

YCSO is seeking to speak with anyone, especially merchants, who had contact with these suspects or may have been victimized through the use of fraudulent cards presented by them. Please call 928-771-3260 to report the activity.
